my cruise control is not working on my 2000 f350 sd. is there a fuse for it that i can start with checking. If so which panel and # would be helpful.
Thanx
I'm not sure of the fuse, but usually it's the stupid cheesy clockspring behind the airbag. All it is is a tape wire, with wires that connect the horn, cruise system, and airbag to the vehicle. If that is the issue, it cost about $100 IIRC from the dealer. It is a warranteed item, so what I would do (again if it is the clockspring) is replace it, keep the reciept and box, and return the old on about half a year later saying that it too broke. Now you have a free replacement! I actually did get one that broke AGAIN after only a few months in the truck. These things are very thin and they flex alot as you turn the steering wheel, so they can and do brake. Usually the cruise goes first, then the horn, then the air bag, and you get the light.... You gotta take off the steering wheel and a few panels behind the wheel, but it only takes about an hour with a manual and basic tools.

thanx Mongo looks like I'll be taken my steering wheel off tomorrow
good on ya brother- save the dealers hourly charges. If you don't have the manual, you should get it, cause you gotta take off the wheel, top and bottom panels behind the wheel, ignition lock, and then the clockspring itself. there are 2 plugs that go into it. It's really easy to do though, so don't get give up! If you need help we're here for ya bro. Hell if I was back home and not Iraq, I'd have you over and help you.
P.S.- since you're relatively close (take the 215-91-241) if you ever need help with mods or maintenance after August hit me up and we can knock it out together.
Also, if it is a standard tranny, check the clutch switch. Mine had corrosion and moisture issues.
X2
My cruise didn't work & the culprit was the springs inside the clutch switch had broke and the switch wasnt making contact with the clutch all the way out. It's 2 switches in one, one switch tells the computer that the clutch pedal is all the way in so you can crank the starter. The other switch tells the computer that the clutch pedal is all the way out and the cruise can work. I also found out that the second part of the switch will keep the truck from going to high idle on cold days, ever notice that the high idle cancells if you tap the clutch or the brake or release the park brake?
Rock auto has the switch.
Keep us posted.

Let me know how the wheel/airbag removal goes. I have to pull mine next week. I finally gave up on the grungy steering wheel and broken cruise buttons and bought a new wheel and buttons. Thanks vettdvr

I assume you mean you got the wheel off. The clock spring, (slide switch as the actual name) has a ribbon connector. I have seen the failures at the ribbon connector where the plastic plug is and the wires tend to break there. Normally the ends of the ribbon connector is where damage occurs. This damage is the result of a square corner that the ribbon connector pulls tight on and this breaks the wire. What magnifies the problem is full wheel turns left or right to the mechanical stops.
They are relatively cheap and you have done the hard work I would replace it.
WARNING you must install the new one so that you have equal turns in Left and Right direction to prevent damaging the new one. Check the old one closely for how it is wound.
Now did you have any trouble with airbag removal and what puller did you use for the wheel.
A while back, my CC quit working and the ABS light would come on at the same time.
The cure was a new vehicle speed sensor on the rear axle.
$20.00 and five minutes later it was fixed.

You are right that will make the cruise quit, but doesn't it also drive the spedo?

Yes, but half the time it would work, with the ABS light on. It was erratic, sometimes it would be fine, other times the speedo would drop, ABS light on, CC inop.
Turn the engine off, restart and it would be normal until the next drive cycle.
Another thing to check is the cruise control deactivation switch on the master cylinder, they go bad and leak brake fluid through them causing a bad connection . They are recalled on gassers because of possible fire hazard.

I had the leaking connection for the cruise deactivation sensor. 20.00 at dealer, and fixed the problem. Very easy to change.
