Carpet to Vinyl

Has anyone pulled the carpet out of your trucks and replaced it with a vinyl or rubber floor coating? I noticed on my 95 f150 ext cab that I am getting some rust on the driver floor pan from moisture sitting under the carpet and insulation. This summer, I plan on taking out the carpet and coating the whole floor of the cab in bedliner material. Then, I was debating whether or not to put in new carpet or just go to vinyl since I use my truck for work and on the farm quite a bit. Anybody have any thought on this? Does it increase cab noise?

I think LMC has the vinyl kit-a few of the sponsors on here may have it also-it might be a little noisier-but at least ya can cut down on the cleaning time

Go with the vinyl the carpet is crap trust me I have vinyl in my truck and its nice to clean and take care off. My dad has carpet and I clean his truck for him every once in a while and every time I want to set a match to it cuase I just cant get it clean to save my life also the bedliner is a great idea I'm probably gonna do that with the truck in my sig. Also as far as road noise goes LMC truck I think have thicker rubber/vinyl floor mats that I think would help. Just my .02 cents

I have looked around and the carpet and vinyl seem to be pretty close in price. I have floor mats, but Ive given up on the permanent mud stains on the carpet. I will put some new insulation down but Im just wondering if vinyl would make a big difference in noise.

I dont think so if you get somthing thick than oem then I dont even think you would need insulation for noise.

I think personally the insulation might help-but then it holds moisture?

I've had vinyl in all four of my trucks, and I love it. Car audio shops (and possibly good marine stores) carry insulation materials. If I were replacing a matt, I'd look into insulation, and consider whether or not water would actually get under the insulation, or not. But the trucks with vinyl matts didn't have insulation from Ford, so you might not need it? I did put some in my '81 F-100, but I'd couldn't say whether it made much difference, but I just used foam. I think some of the car audio insulation might be more effective?

Re: coating the floor with bedliner--that's a neat idea, but I would remove or convert (chemically) the rust as much as possible first, lest it continue to rust under the bedliner. Personally, I'd hit it with the cup brush and grinder, then use Extend rust converter, then a coat of Rustoleum Dirty Metal Primer, then two coats of a gloss (color) coat. If you go with the bed liner, you could eliminate the gloss coats. You might even skip the primer, and just go over the rust converter, but I'm obsessive, and I'd use the primer, too.

yes trucks with vinal mats did have insulation from ford, at least mine does, i already bought a bedliner spray on kit i'm going to spray on as soon as it's warm enough so i can just hose it out, right now the water gets trapped in the insulation and rusts the floor i have a small hole in the passenger's side floor board

Yea, right now the plan is to use a grinder and wire wheel to get rid of all the rust, then prime the whole floor, then bedliner. LMC has what they call Molded Industrial Polyvinyl (MIP) floor covings and they are looking pretty apealing to me. I dont mind a little cab noise, but I just dont want it to be rediculously loud in there. I think the bedliner might also help a little in the noise reduction/insulation area.
