4r100 question

My son's 2001 F350, v10, 4X4, has issues. When cold it will shift through all gears except shifting to 2cd and third at are a higher RPM than normal, no slippage. Once warm all bets are off, sometimes it won't go into reverse and when shifting past 2cd it falls into what I would call neutral. We dropped the pan and pulled the solenoid body and checked Ohm reading, all seem to be in spec. The plug on the solenoid was wet and somewhat dirty which to me is strange because the truck has not moved on over a month and this all started going down a slushy road back in December. The truck was running fine and then it downshifted on it's own to 2cd and it has been like it is since then. He is currently unemployed so we were hoping the solenoid was the culprit. This weekend we are going to put it back together and before putting the pan on is there anything else we should check. I have a Autoenginuity scan system with the Ford special reader coming Monday so maybe that will give us more information but was just wondering if there is any other things to check out before we put the pan on and know for sure it's DOA.
Thanks
