I am going to be putting dual exhaust on my truck in the near future and I have a question. A friend of has a stright pipe instead of a muffler on hist F150 and I really like the sound. I am thinking of going with that. Are there any problems or anyhing I should know about before doing this. Inspections are not a problem, although the state does require a muffler, I can still get that done. Any comments are welcome.
I must agree. Cherry bombs sound sweet. I had some on my 94 F-150 with a 302 and they were LOUD. Put some echo tips on the end of the pipe it will really talk to you.
Wow, i bet they would make it talk real nice, thats actually a pretty good idea, the thing is, i dont really need the tips cause my 7.3L diesel already scraped up 3 tickets for being too loud. lol. gets expensive but i just throw the jake and go. god i love fords.
Thanks guys for the info, but I am not into cherry bombs. I am sure they are what you guys like, but not my personal preference. What I need to know is has anyone ran into problems with the computer or sensors because of not running a muffler. My friends has absolutly no problems with his.
P.S. I am sure your cherry bombs sound great, but you need to hear one growl with no muffler, it is not as loud as you would think but has a great sound.
Personnally i cannot tell you what it will do, but i have had a couple buddies run without mufflers and yes the do sound good but no immediate problems. for the short term i believe you would be ok, but i dont believe it is good for it in the long run, over time having no backpressure will take a toll on your motor, thats just my opinion and by no means am i an expert but thats all i can give ya. good luck, god i love fords
It all depends on the truck. If it is a 1996 or older you can take all the pipe off back to the manifold and nothing will happen. Or at least nothing happened on that 94 F-150. Anything 97 or newer has the catalytic converter set up so that the truck won't run without it or a suitable substitute. I have heard of people taking the chip out of the converter and wiring back up to the truck so that it will run without the converter but I never heard if it worked or not.
P.S. One of my friends took the manifolds off of his 79 Chevrolet and left like that and it sounds GOOD. The truck looks like crap and don't run half the time but it sounds good when it is running.
I think you should go to a performance muffler shop and have them let you listen to a few set-ups on your truck. They should have mufflers at the shop already. What they should do is cut your muffler off and then tell them to start your truck and let you hear how the truck sounds with no muffler. If it is too loud, have them put the muffler(s)onto the pipe WITHOUT welding them on so you can change them easily, and see how that sounds and which on you like the best. The shop I go to in Las Vegas did this for me without a problem, so maybe your shop will too. I don't think running without any mufflers will cause a problem because Dynomax and Magnaflo both have a muffler that is straight through (you can look right through it)and that is the same as a staight pipe, but the mufflers muffle the sound a bit. Hope this helps. You can go to Magnaflo and Dynomax's website and they will have a pic of how those mufflers look.
