Holding 2nd gear too long

Hey guys,

I just bought a 06 Crew 4x4 with the 5.4L. When you really hammer the throttle it will try to hold 2nd gear rather than shifting, then the engine light starts to flash and I think the truck goes into limp mode. Really shudders if you try to accelerate at all. The engine light will flash for about 30 seconds and if you don't let right off the throttle then it will stay lit. This usually happens at around 4100 rpm and it seems like you have to back way out of the throttle to get it to shift 2nd to 3rd. I don't have the manual so I don't know what the flashing engine light means. Any advice?

Thanks

Went and got the code pulled. Misfire on #5 cylinder. I'm gonna change the #5 coil and the plugs. $240 CAD for 8 champions and a coil. Ouch. Hopefully that fixes it though... I didn't realize the codes were so specific on these newer vehicles.

Are you familiar with the Ford TSB on spark plug replacement and the potential for broken spark plugs?

I am now The truck has 88000 miles right now. I'll probably do the coil first and wait on the plugs until I'm a little more prepared.
