88 F150 4.9L Dies once I a while- mystery
#16
Well the new external fuel pump did the trick, i have had no troubles since i replaced it this weekend. The rear tank pump does not work, so i only have a front tank for now. I think I'm going to have my shop siphon the gas in the rear tank to the front and maybe i can replace the rear tank fuel pump this weekend. The only weird thing is that the fuel gauge for the rear tank was working when the pump went out, i've heard if one goes so goes the other. Could there be another problem from the rear tank? Like the selector valve isnt working or a clog or something? I would hate to replace the rear tank pump and have it still not work so any ideas will be helpful.
One insight - the Airtex fuel pump i got from Checker isn't really that good of a fit. had to kinda rig up its own little housing and really tape down the connectors. They were the "build your own connectors on our stock pump" kind, and flimsy. just my opinon on the Airtex, but im sure $90 is much less than a Ford pump, so I'm happy.
