She's alive and well

The brown truck came by today with a new starter for my truck. Got it installed, all the battery terminals and post cleaned up and cranked her over. I have never heard this truck turn over like that before. She cranked over very fast and fired right up. Minimal smoke(it was plugged in for 2 hours prior to starting) and everything else checked out good. I'll be driving her a lot more now, just sitting around in the shop is no place for a truck. I have video but can't get it from the camera to youtube or somewhere else to host it.

Good deal on the fix Mike. As a preventitive use some Noalox on the battery terminals to prevent corrosion. Did you go with the DB?

Yep. Couldn't beat the price locally.

Glad to hear you like it. I got their regular torque starter and I couldn't believe how much faster it spins the motor either.

I'm thinking about getting one to keep in my shop for when mine goes out. I am still on the original starter with over 120,000 miles on it. I know if I have one ready to put in, it will never go out.

That's the one I got too Chris. It seems like it spins it twice as fast as what was in there.

Never hurts to be prepared though Rick.

If you get one, stick it in and keep your old one as a spare. You'll like the way the DB spins the motor.

If you look go on Youtube and check out Powerstrokehelp, he explained why that is. They revised the starter and came out with a much better design (starting with the 2002 MY) that lasts longer and spins the motor much faster.

But mine was a 2002 to begin with. Mine still worked for the most part, but the first time I turned the key and the gear spun without kicking out to grab the flywheel I ordered the DB. I picked a nice warm day a couple of weeks later and did the install (carried around the starter in the back seat in the mean time to be on the safe side). I think that was around 270k on the odometer.
