I recently hauled a 5000lb trailer with my 03 F250 6.0L Super Duty Turbo diesel and noticed a strange noise, similar to a belt hitting something, when the turbo kicked in while pulling up a hill. This noise seems to come from the center part of the engine near the cab. Once I took my foot off of the accelerator it stopped. It only seems to happend when under load. Nothing obvious is loose around the turbo. Any ideas?
It took me awhile to figure out the sound the electric fan makes when it kicks in and out, but it aways kicks in under a load/up hill it seems, but it sounds like a dull whine like a turbo
The noise is more like a flapping sound (not a knock) that happens about every 0.5 seconds for as long as you put it under load. It is definitly not a whining noise.
So what is an EGR? Also, reference exhaust leaks.. I recently had the Y tube replaced just under the turbo because of a small fracture that was causing diesel fumes to leak into the cab. This noise seemed to appear after that was fixed.
