Thats what i'd like to know!! When i think of fiat this comes to mind:
Fix
It
Again
Tony
The few people that i know that have owned a 70's or 80's Fiat it was nothing but a pile!. I sure hope that they have improved over time (unlike their new partner!)

I put myself through school working on "ferrin" cars, mostly European. I drove a VW, but many of my customers had Fiats, along with MG's and even an odd Simca (Chrysler of France, for you trivia nuts). The Fiat sports cars were cheap, stylish, fun and not very reliable. At least they were easy to work on and dealer parts cheap. A new long block for a 124 was under $400. Italian carbs are the best in the world, electrics were almost as bad as English, almost. You needed to carry a stick to beat on the voltage regulator when the ammeter went to discharge. A new regulator was no fix, because they all did it.

I owned a used Fiat 850 sports coupe and as noted above, it was pure junk. Last summer while in Italy we reserved a Alfa rental but got stuck with a Fiat compact. Much to my surprise, it was a nice little car. The 3 cylinder diesel intrigued me. While not the fastest off the line, it nevertheless, was quite capable on highways. You would never have known it was a diesel except for the gas cap. No diesel odors, rattles or other give aways. It would be a great city/urban car.
