throttle body spacer

I have a K&N intake on my 2003 F350 4x4 V10 and love it. I got an extra 1.5 mpg so don't expect a huge gain on mpg. now i get a whopping 12.84 mpg haha
As for a spacer i looked into one but decided to not get one. It seemed, as lease to me, that it shinks the air flow going to the throttle body. A piece of material with two holes with spiral flow in them. Didnt seem to be able to do much but cut air flow.

I was getting 15MPG on the highway before I did ANYTHING.
I have gotten it up to as high as 17 once or twice on a long trip (after the headers), but since I put the Volant on, I haven't been able to baby it enough to really find out.
I suspect it hasn't changed anything in the MPG department. It DID help in the mid-range power, but that's also with headers and y-pipe mod.
Matter of fact, with all the mods, I have not noticed a big gain in MPGs.
The y-pipe might have done the most for stop-and-go, because I don't have to press so much on the go-pedal to get moving anymore.
But highway hasn't changed much.

If you look carefully at your intake manifold, you will see that you already have VERY long tuned runners (arguably too long...) with a very large plenum. A TB spacer will add maybe 0.01% more volume..... How much benefit do you think that would provide?
And the whole "swirl" thing? Absolute tripe. Again, this manifold design is already very good. On a TBI'd engine with a bad manifold design (think mid 80's chevy's), it can help distribution to the end cylinders, but on a MPFI system with a good manifold design, it is completely useless.

Theres got to be over 16" of intake runner between the back of the TB to where the fuel is injected. Any spin created by the spacer would get disturbed whn it hit the valve or merged into a runner. As mwfsF250 said I can see it helping a TBI or Carbureted setup where the air/fuel is mixed right before the spacer but for the V10 forget it.
I noticed a slight increase in throttle response with my K&N FIPK and some increased intake noise. I know it helped the top end a tad but nothing really noticeable. With the intake it is a lot easier to maintain the filter and clean the MAF. With all the mods I've done to my truck I didn't really notice an increase in mpg just power. I don't do a lot of highway though and flat straight roads in PA are hard to find so......
