i live in NJ where emission inspection is nuts! i have a really nice exhaust system on it now, but i get failed because they tell me its too short; in a nutshell, they are forcing me to run a complete system straight out the back under the rear bumper. this is ok but first i have a few questions:
if i run true dually's, how would it sound if i did A)straight pipes with NO muffler B)flowmaster 40 series and no crossover C) flowmaster 40 with a crossover D)dynomax turbos?
im after a DEEP DEEP AGRESSIVE tone! the truck in question is a 73 F250 4x4. By the way, im NOT required to have CATS--thank god!
regards
ben
man what a bunch of *****! I'm sorry you have to de-ball your exhaust, but I like the idea of dual 40's out the back with an h-pipe. that sounds like it would be the best. Straight pipes would be louder, but with the 40's the QUALITY would be much greater.
Emission laws vary from municipal to municipal. And yeah, the new F150s do end before the rear tire but I'll bet that from the factory like that and new, its just enough to pass the emissions tests.
I just put Flow Tech shorty smog headers and 2 1/2 inch duals/3 inch tips with 40 series Flow Masters on my Bronco. They run all the way back and exit behind the back tires at a 45 degree angle. They sound really good and the performance increase is worth the $$$$
If you're from NJ,I doubt the straight pipes without mufflers would pass inspection. It would sound good, true, but then again, you'd be attracting a lot of unwanted attention,if you know what I mean. You get pulled over for noise, and they look underneath the truck, and see it has no mufflers.....Flowmasters(either 40,or 50 series) with dual 2 1/2" pipes should make you happy with the way your truck will sound.I've got 2 1/4" duals with twin cats(I'm required to have them),and Flowmaster Series 50 mufflers on my 1990 Bronco, and it sounds extremely good, considering it has a 302 still wearing it's original exhaust manifolds. My pipes exit straight out the back, under the rear bumper.
