Clip-in vs. Screw-in head units

I have a 2002 Explorer with the screw mount Mach 6-CD head unit with subwoofer output. I want to replace it with the single CD/cassette unit with subwoofer output and CD changer input. These units are only available with the clip-in (spring clips) mounting style. Has anybody successfully mounted a clip-in unit in place of the screw mount? I don't mind sacrificing my screw mount unit to scavenge mounting parts for the clip-in.

As long as the clip style headunit fits in tightly, you shouldn't need anything else. The clips are self contained and just pinch against the back of the hole. You can rig the radio to reuse the bolts. I've seen professional installers use a thick version of plumber's strap, or you can remove the mounts from the old radio and tack them to the new.
