The HPOP was high on my list of problem causes but trying to take a step by step rather than just replacing parts in random order. what are the possible side effects of the stick upgrade?
if you are going to run bigger sticks you will def. need gauges do the 6637 mod and exhaust. Don't know if you have any since you don't have a signature. If you do have gauges and the rest and want sticks I would also get a Chip if you don't have one already. You wont notice full strength of the bigger sticks without programming.
ahh PMS...
I have boost & Egt gauges, DIY intake with Baldwin filter close to the one you guys run, 3" down pipe straight exaust with 5" stack, and TS 6 position chip. No FPR mod but press.@ 68lbs do I need to do it? Is there anything more that any of you would do before the sticks besides IC.
I would not shim the FPR if it's running at 68. You don't have to have an IC to run bigger sticks. that is what Dale at Tymar told me. It helps with Egts, But unless you are towing heavy loads I wouldn't worry about getting the IC before the sticks. I would hold out and try to find either a newer 7.3 or a 6.0 IC that you can put in.
Is one better than the other or is it just a matter of preference? I only tow a 28' pontoon to the campground 2x per year once there and once back. so towing is not a problem. Would like to try it at some local diesel pulls this year.
the 6.0 is a bigger intercooler. I have a Hypermax intercooler, at the time didn't have the time to fab the pipes for the IC so i got the Hypermax kit which included everything. I got it from Dale at Tymar. If you get a chance call him, when I talked to him about getting the IC he told me I could go without it if I had the proper programming
thanks for the Ic info, you are correct Duck, I will check that with the other things in the AM, would the IDM cause this problem or would it just quit running altogether?
New findings, MAP sensor unhooked check engine light, less power.
I did find one of the plugs on the cover gaskets was covered in oil when i pulled the plug out of the socket. should'nt be sealed from oil on the inside, would this be the most likely cause for the prob?
No, those often have a little oil in them. You asked earlier about an IDM, those can fail, but not often. Before I did that, I'd ohm out the pins to make sure the UVC's aren't burnt. Or take the valve covers off and look.
