f150 lifts--- which one?

i just traded my 03 powerstroke in for an 05' f150 and im looking to get a lift kit for it... i've been shopping around a little bit but im looking for a 6" front lift and 4" rear lift, so it will make it sit higher and level at the same time... i had a tough country leveling kit on my super duty for about 2 years and was really impressed with it... i just installed a rough country lift on my jeep wrangler and so far im impressed with it to.

i guess my question does anyone make a 6" front and 4" rear lift for the f150? i don't really want to go any bigger than that... i plan on running a 305 or 315 dick cepek fun country or mud country on a 17 or 18" dick cepek DC1 wheel...

thanks
nick

pictures are appreciated!

If you do a search on here, you will find TONS of information.... there are a lot of companies that offer 6" lifts for the 04-08 150..... RCD, Fabtech, Pro-Comp, BDS, Superlift, and so on...... most lifts out there will be a 6" front, and a 3" rear (stock rear block is a 2", and the lift will provide 5")... or, some will stack a 3" with the factory 2". some lifts will provide a "nose up look".... so i would also recommend either an add-a-leaf, or airbags, or a 5.5" block if you dont want that look. i personally love the RCD kit, but it is one of the more expensive kits out there..... there are just too many options available.... you need to do some research first.... if you have your wheels picked out, then see which lifts are compatible for those wheels specs.... thats the order i would recommend.... wheels and tires first, then the lift.... some people buy the lift first, and then cant get the wheels they truly want if they wont fit. here is a pic of mine with 6" RCD, and 35" procomp mud terrains.

i like the way that sits... thats about what i want mine to sit like but maybe an inch or 2 lower... im also not crazy about having a 5" block lift in the back...

how will a 6" lift and 35s effect towing? i have a 16' flat trailer that weighs roughly 1800 lbs and would be hauling a 91' wrangler on it... thats probably the most i'll pull more than 100 miles round trip...

also, what does RCD stand for? rough country?

thanks!

RCD stands for Race Car Dynamics...... they actually have a website also. one nice thing about my lift is that it is adjustable, and can be set at 4" lift, or 6" up front. but, it doesnt change the back.... you could probably get a 3" block and an add-a-leaf to be level at the 4" setting..... i was running the 4" setting with the 5" block for a while, and it had the factory rake, just taller in the air. at that setting you could probably run a 35" tire, but i would bet you rub a little.... so, if you wanted to be a couple inches smaller than me, i would just recommend a 4" lift (either RCD of Rancho), and then run 33's.

the 35's dont "kill" your towing... of course you will notice a difference, but it isnt bad for me. i do have and EDGE, so that helps a little with these tires. also, a 5" block isnt bad either..... i have not experienced any axly wrap... afterall, we arent running diesels in these trucks !!

let me know if i can help with anything else.

Go on trucktoyzperformace web site. They are a sponsor. DC helped me out alot last time I had questions. You may get some ideas from their site. Personally I always go "high end "on lifts. Not a big fan of tough country

Pro Comp
Rough Country
Rize

seem to be the biggest 3 lifts...and most of them are a 6" front/4" rear...but when installed, most trucks seem to sit butt low. now idea why.

I've got my eye on the Pro Comp, but the Rough Country is looking pretty good.

The Pro Comp adds about 1-2" to the overall track width, while Rough Country says they maintain OEM specs

Nick,

I put a 6" Fabtech on my '04 Fx4 with the Dirt Logic shocks and absolutly love it. Instead of the blocks on the stock springs for the rear, I had new springs made that give me a level ride with two spare tires and 30gal of extra fuel in the bed.

This rig has been in the deep deserts of Utah and Nevada on some pretty serious trails and it works great. We are running 35" tires on 18" wheels with upgraded rotors and pads. Also have an ARB in the front (I know how to not break stuff). This truck goes down dirt roads like you are glued to pavement, it's a blast!

So far I don't have any gripes (but I've never tried towing with it).

Cheers

@ steeda...how much total lift do you have? looks like 8"...did you stack a spacer ontop of the coil-over?

or crank the dirt logics?

thanks for all the help! i've looked at ALOT of pics over the last 24 hours and it seems like with alot of lifts the front end is higher than the rear? if anything i would want the rear an inch or so higher than the front... i think im gonna go a 4" rear and 6" front set up and a 305x75x17 tire... most likely dickcepek mud country on their DC1 wheel... so thats about a 34-34.5" tall tire... at about 12" wide...

i like the look of the yellow one above... but some of my friends have had problems with fabtech stuff in the past... mainly their bushings wear out prematurely (sp?)... im looking at the procomp and rough country setups...

if anyone has a pic of the rough country or procomp 6" kit with a 305 tire i would love to see it...

anything else i should look for when lifting it?

my boss has a 05' titan with a leveling kit and his camber/caster is messed up and his tires lean in and wear funny because their not flat on the ground, but leaned in because the control arms are dropped further, as if the suspension is drooped all the time, just because he has a coil spring spacers... thats another thing i don't want, but im assuming the control arm brackets will correct that?

thanks!!

Fabtech lift

Actually, neither. The dampers are set as recommended from Fabtech, no spacers. Since this truck is used to get way out into the deserts of Utah and Nevada for week long + trips, we had the rear springs designed to handle 600-800 lbs of cargo (spare tires, fuel, water etc.) and not sit tail low. We like to do some moderate rock crawling with that load and didn't want to always be stuffing the suspension.

That said, we thought that the front might have to be adjusted up a bit, but the rear springs sat just right without load (and even give a good ride quality). The front is probably only 0.5" low to the rear when empty and about the same the other way when heading out for a wheeling trip.

We have put nearly 20K miles on this kit with a non-trivial amount of extended 80mph blasts across the desert and have never had a lick of trouble, and have not found any abnormal bushing wear for what it's worth.

Cheers

I have the 6 inch fabtech lift with toyo, open county, 35s, I noticed a difference with towing as far as downshifting a little easier and slower acceleration but it still handles, anything I throw at it, your wrangler should not be an issue. Mine is also a dark blue, there are some pics in my gallery if you want to take a look.
