Hi Julie, I filled in all the holes in my dash over the Christmas holidays and plan on putting the ***** in the dash extension when I have one. I also filled in the area where the gauge cluster went and will be shopping for gauges in the future as well but that will make for another topic, lol. I enjoy what you do for this forum and welcome your input in this thread and all the others I don't take part in, your a wealth of information as are others and are greatly appreciated. thank you

Oh, forgot to say that the wiper switch was on the lower part of the dash next to the ignition switch

Failure with my wiper mod

Well hind sight would be a whole lot better if I had done some checking before I started fabricating. I made this nice bracket to mount the wiper motor I took out of the chevy pickup I have parked out back, didn't think to look at how it operated before all this took place. The wiper motor rotates 360*, the old vacume motor is more related to asteering box as it swipes back and forward in about a 130* arc. Can anyone steer me into a direction to a motor that is similar to the vacum motor.

I think all the electric motors turn 360 degrees. That is why they have the bellcrank, cam like linkage. Although the motor rotates 360 the arms only rotate the needed swipe of the wiper. That probably doesn't make much sense but I'm pretty sure that is how they work. I wish I could describe it better. The wiper arm connection point on the bell crank moves 360 but the other end of the wiper arm that connects to the bracket on the wiper pivot is moving back and forth causing the wiper sweep. I think I just made it more confusing.

The original vaccum motor will only move back and forward with about a total movement of 130 degrees, rotating it by hand just before it stops you can here a click as if there is a limit switch. The one from the chevy pickup rotates 360 continuously, it's out of a 1990. What I'd like to know is if anyone knows of a wiper motor that has the same characteristics as the original vaccum motor.
Leckart, you said you used a motor from a 1980 ford pickup, does it rotate 360 degrees, or was it only the delay that you used from the 80 and you had the original 56 electric motor. Can anyone tell me if the transmission rods were different from the electric verses the vaccum in 56

Got your email and I understand your drawing and that is how the chevy's wiper setup works. I have to see if I could work that concept into the 56, the bellcrank as you describe it is different on the 56 vacuum motor than it is on the chevy setup ,on the chevy there is only two contact points on the bellcrank and three on the 56. I'll have to make a mockup and maybe use the arms to the pivots from the chevy. If I'm going to butcher something it my as well be parts from it.If I can get this figured out I'll post some pics.

My appologies to shelby1965367 for hijacking this thread, me bad
