putting in super duty seats 40 20 20 style? my truck pic included

ok so i hate my bench seat. i want a 40 20 40 style seat ( typed it in wrong in the thread title i know) which is 2 fullsize seats and a smaller seat in the middle that can turn into a center console and cup holders. while still being a bench seat for 3 people. i would love to do the ford lightning truck seats 93 -95 in grey like a FTE member ( jalampi) has in his black 79 ford. but as i start to do more researching i am seeing guys putting 2002 and newer seats into 1994 or 1996 trucks in "the diesle stop" forums. i have heard they are slightly wider and sit about 2 " taller. but will they fit with some mods? so if a seat will fit from a 96 to our 79's with track swaps and they are putting super duty seats in those 96's why not make it work? i plan on paying about $1000 for a really, really nice seat. i just put a $4000 paint job on my truck and everything that looks slightly worn out is straight to the dump! hell i saw one guy on that site who did king ranch brown leather seats in his 1996 crew cab and it looked amazing. not too worried about the power stuff on them just want to get som feed back from you guys. so let me know what you have done and pics would be great

heres my 79 ford on 49" iroks

1st off - yes the newer seats are for sure a bit wider and a bit taller. Not too much though as they still look alright in the truck.

I will be doing the 40/20/40 at some point. I already have the seats which are out of an '04 or '06 crew cab (can't remember). The rear out of this set is already in my truck - although that won't do you much good as it is a solid bench. But I can take pics of that if anybody wants.

I did do a 60/40 out of a '99 F-150 before (pics/write up in my gallery), but I took it out when I bought the matching front/rear seat out of a newer crew. You can look at this write up to get ideas of what it will take.
I did not have the power motors for the '99 seat - so I made a bracket to bolt it to the stock sliders in my '74.
With the '04/'06 seats I have now I got the power motors so I will be looking at using them. Unfortunately this most likely means I will have to punch new holes in the crew's floor which I am not super happy about.

I will be sure to post pics when I mount the seats, but it won't be for a while now seeing as I am in the middle of moving and have to finish my diesel swap once that deal get's sorted. After the diesel swap is done then I can get to the seats, D60 and other "fun" stuff for the crew.

Do you still have the seat and would you be willing to sell it?

Sorry - that seat was already sold. I do still have the bracket I made if you come across one though. I think anything fromm 98-02 or even later is the same and will bolt to my "bracket", and my bracket bolts to the factory sliders

seats

hey chase. love those 99 60/40 seats you put in the crew. very nice. i love the updated look it gives the truck. i am hoping to have my seats kinda like that but in same colour grey but in leather. also need a center console/armrest kinda thing. do you have any pics of the 04 seats you are planning on putting in? i had an auto wrecker guy tell me he has a perfect set of 40 20 40 in beige leather from an 02 and he says they are like 53 " wide. the width is my biggest concern i guess. what do you guys think?

The width is fine. If I remember right the stock bench was 53" wide, and the '99 seat and these newer ones seem just a bit wider.

I can take pics of my seats tonight - but the 40/20/40 are just on the floor of my shop. The rear (solid bench) is all that is in the truck at this point.

And yes - new seats sure do update the interior look and feel. Your butt will love them AND used ones go for about as much as the cost of re-covering a stock one around here

Heres a pic of the seat that was in my junk
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...-upgrades.html
The seat came out of a 91 F150 and all that I had to do is swap over the mounting brackets. Hope this helps some!

i would like a real nice fornt seta. i was looking at the setas the use in the rock crawling types. red art has suspension seats does that mean it moves you can get them with heat and even speakers for like 500. let me know if anyone has done or will do it?

could i use a king ranch seat?

i have 73 f250 manual shift. think it like 53" wide.

like some sweet custom door panel might try to make them any i deas. and fefinately head liner and dash cover are needed. the body, exterior and engine "460" is just in awesome condition.

Would you consider e-mailing the plans for the bracket you made so we don't have to re-invent the wheel. I found a real nice set with an arm rest from a 92 for $100 but I really like that 40 20 40 split too.

Thanks

I've used um. I have had no less than 15 pairs of these seats come through my hands. My buddies used to jokingly call me the "seat broker".
Actually my budded used to work for RedArt. That company seems to be in trouble now as the owner has made some bad business choices and will most likely bury himself and the company soon.

All that aside Beard/RedArt does have a couple nice seats, but there are many others out there that are better or cheaper (pick one). If you are truely considering this option let me know (PM me I guess) as I can tell you all about the multiple people making these seats (PRP, Beard/RedArt, Mastercraft, Twisted Stitch, Neristyle, etc.) and possibly get you a better deal than you could normally find.

There is no "plan" to this. It's more of a "make it for/to the seat" type of deal. I sit behind cad all day and I can draw parts, etc. easily and I really don't know how I'd transfer this to something readable by someone else. Take a look at my gallry on this and you can figure out why. Based on the pretty much random hole locations in the bottom of these newer seats the brackets seemt to have tabs and holes just ***** nilly all over place...

If you end up buying the 60/40 then let me know and I can ship you my brackets for a good price.

Cool. I really like your 60/40. That would look good. I like the center console better than just an armrest. I had that seat in my 2001 F150.
Thanks Guy!

It should. It will take some custom work of course - but yes it will physically fit in the cab.

Here are some pics of the rear seat in my truck. Keep in mind this came out of a '04 or '06 crew and the fronts are the 40/20/40. There is a pic of these sitting on the floor of my shop. That thing on the end is the center console - it's just sitting upside down.

Here's the pics of the brackets I made to put in the rears

oh - I just came across the pics the seller sent when I was buying the seats - so there is a better one of the fronts. I have it labeled as 2002 seats in that email...

I just re-read your other post and I am not positive the 92 seat will be the same as the '99-'01 seat I had so this might not be a direct bolt on.

Let me know what you find at the junk yard and then we can work on shipping those - which could get spendy thanks to stupid UPS and there "oversized" BS charges
