Got my 3" exhaust put on today, NOT happy
I had a 3" high flow carsound cat and a 3" Full Boar = Flowmaster 40 series muffler put on with 3" pipe, and it is not as loud as I would like it to be. Oh well, guess I flushed $500 down the toilet for nothing. And I think I lost low end torque also.

I feel you pain! I have a 90 Bronco 351W that splits to duals after the cat with 2.25 inch pipe and it sounds like crap. I have yet to hear a 87-96 Ford truck that sounds all that good. Chevy's and the newer Fords and Dodges sound good, but not the 87-96 fords. I cut the second cat off and it sounded good, but to keep it legal I had to put it back on. I think what makes it sound so bad is the 2 cat setup. I have just learned to live with it, cause I have been researching for a few years now and have yet to hear a 87-96 Ford truck that sounds good unless it has an illegal setup on it (true duals, cut off the cat, etc.) but since I live in a emissions testing area I guess I just have to live with it.

What's a Full Boar muffler? It looks like you're saying it's a knockoff FM 40 series? Perhaps somebody was putting you on. Try replacing it with a real flowmaster 40, if you can get your hands on one. Because that setup should sound pretty healthy.

I'm running stock Mustang headers stock 2.5in y pipe with a high flow 3in cat 3in pipe and some kind of 3in turbo style tube muffler and 3in over the axle out the side all thick walled pipe. Just had it done last Thur and it passed the e-test no problem. Improved performance and man it sounds great! I think your problem might be the stock manifolds?
