single to dual exhaust

single to dual exhaust

I have a 1991 E-150 van with single exhaust and i'm converting it from single to dual system from font to the back and I want to know if i need to install a balance pipe between the two sides.

Welcome to FTE...

Unless you are going to go true duals... from the manifolds back. Then an h-pipe or x-pipe is not necessary. If you are then it will be needed to balance out the exhaust pulses and increase torque--

You don't have to, but it will mellow out the sound, as well as add torque.

why go to true duals? A single 3 inch pipe flows more then dual
2 1/2 inch pipes anyway, plus it's easier and cheaper.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Nov-02 AT 08:50 PM (EST)]yes , I'm going to run true dual from the header all the way to the back, so do i stilll need the install the balance pipe. yes or no and why and what is going to do to the emissions.:-)


1991 econoline E-150 conversion van with K-N air filter,Ford racing headers, dual from the muffler back, also 18x8.5 chrome wheels and fat tires, bosch4 spark plugs, 9mm wires and a nice stereo system.and also i bought flowmaster muffler anb magnaflow cats that i need to install

It won't do anything for emissions. It is not required to have a balance tube, but there is no reason not too, it sounds better, gives better power and is very cheap.
