Switching the wiper & light bezel's

Has anyone switch the wiper & light bezel's on a 64 or earlier model. My reason is since the 65 model I own is opposite, I have a tendenacy to pull the wiper **** off, on my 64 model, thinking I'm pulling/ turning the lights on.
I realize the wiper bezel slot has a half moon portion, to prevent I guess from turning it too far, but being a one speed wiper I feel I can modifiy this bezel.
Any suggestion or success with this topic.

Swapping the location of both entire switches, (ie) The light switch & fuse panel that are connected together and move in over to the left into the wiper switch hole & vice versa. There's enough wire play for me to do it, and only the ground on the wiper bezel needs to be move from the left bolt connector on the e-brake to the right bolt & nut connector on the e-brake. I've semi- attempted this last week, but the only problem was the way the wiper hole is design verses the light switch hole.

I don't see why you couldn't, as long as it would reach. You should be able to find that our by holding it below where you want it to go. IMHO

I'm really only questioning if you drill the hole to be a complete circle on the wiper bezel, and swap them over, will not having the half moon shape hole for the wiper switch cause you to twist the wiper pull arm beyond the normal turn radis, when you activate the wipers?

I did that on my 61, after running a 66. I was doing the same thing, it pi$$ed me off after about a 1000 times, it took me 900 times to realize they were in the wrong place. The best way to do it is to fill the hole with a wire feed and grind it back out to get the half moon.

Thanks for the post SJBikesaw, I figure I would have to fill in a new slot, thought about tack welding 1/2 of a slug like from one you pop out electrical access plug. I only hate to mess with the intergity of the dash.
But as you guys mention as well, its sucks pulling the wrong level for lights and I don't know way these era trucks are swapped like that.

I'm into the dash this morning on the 63. Since I have to fix the HUUUGE gaping hole from a raunchy GM radio instalation anyway, I think I will be doing this headlight/wiper switch exchange. If I can get this POS camera to work I will snap some pics.

I don't know if I want to do the dash today now though. I just went outside to find the weather was crap. I guess if I am going to work in the rain I will do the master and wheel cylinders instead since I don't need the cab to get soaked. There is the ugly radio hole I need to fix, it looks like they punched it with a hammer and chisel.

SJ Bikesaw; The sad thing the rest of your dash looks great, there's no cure for stupidy...
As I mention earlier in the thread; the only thing that seem to need adjusting is the hole slot's and the ground wire on the wiper switch, I just transfer it from one bolt on the e-brake to the one closer to the new hole.
Thanks for posting pic's, atleast your're able / to use a camera, I relie on my buddy to do my gallery pic's.
Its a pain pulling that wiper **** off in the dark expecting for your lights to come on.
And I don't drive either one of my trucks daily enough to realize which one I'm in.

What if you filled that half moon with JB weld. I would think it worth a try you won't mess it up permanently and it would probably hold up to a little twisting, it's not like you're trying to twist the **** off or anything. Just a thought

RCC;
That's a good question, will check into it. But if I remember correctly, you have to remove the hole on the originial wipers slot to allow the headlight switch to go thru. Not 100% of this, my memory is in questioning. I replace the two switches when I realize you had to do these minor mods.
But its a good though, JB Weld get's harder than a woodpeckers lips.....

Yea I guess the other hole would be permanently changed but hey if it saves your wiper **** WTH. I think that would drive me nuts cause if it's dark you hit the key and grab for those lights it's automatic. I guess you could go Hi-Tech and put in a sensor for your headlights and just forget about them.
