Hey Mexemo, I had similiar symptoms,sort of. I had a mechanic friend of mine run (diagnostic)test with a scanner and it came up fine. I took it to the local diesel shop and they scanned it .Turns out it was the IDM that went bad. I guess what I'm saying is you should make sure your mechanic is using a good scanner.Just my .02. Good luck
can we get a little more description on the problem? i see you have a tw chip. what position are you in when this problem occurs? are you starving the motor for high pressure oil? what does the truck do when it loses power?
I have same truck and if I hit a hill with my 36 ft trailer, it does the same. Keep in mind that these trucks arent designed to pu;; 14k up a steep holl at 65 mph. I cant even climb these hills in my Kenworth at 14k without losing some speed.
With the camper wt 12,000 and the chip on the tow mode,I hit the hill at 70 or above. Then the speed starts dropping (with my foot through the front bumper),OD is turned off,and then I will go to 2nd.
While in 2nd,I keep rpm's below 3000,and egt's below 1250.It doesn't seem to miss,just will not down shift to keep rpm's up.
You're trucks probably around 7K. That's a gross combo of 19K.
At 6% grade and 35 MPH => .06 * 35 MPH / 60 min/hr * 5280 ft / min = 185 ft /min rise.
185 ft / min * 19K / 33,000 ft-lb/min/hp = 106 hp.
You're putting 106 horses into climbing. That doesn't include all the rolling resistance and wind resistance, just the climbing. Yes, it seems low. (If it's a 6% grade).
I can pull a 6% grade at 17K gross combo right at 55 MPH if I can stay mashed; if I let up it takes a long time to get back up there. My truck is bone stock.
i had my edge set on the tow setting hualing 12k trailer + hay going up hills at 45 it wouldn't down shift but it maintained speed. sounds to me like something is up becuase i have alot fewer mods.
i'm not following how it is not downshifting if you have od off and it downgears to 2nd? how are the tw tunes programed for towing? it may be the tunes that hold the gears? i dont know. how does it pull hills in another mode other than tow?
If you in OD it should downshift. Also try unplugging the electrical connector on the MAP sensor and see if you truck has more power. It will set the CEL but you are looking to see how the truck drives.
good point, but the mechanic should have checked out the map pid while he had it on the scanner. never the less, its a 5 minute check to see if it makes a difference
