"shifter lever has alot of play" - ideas ?

Hey,

did not find anything on this topic here ... my shifter lever has alot of play. Anything I can check to do or is this a known problem. My F-350 has 130.000 miles on it ...

Thanks

Check up behind the dash and down at the transmission for something loose.

The bolt attaching the cable to the transmission on my truck was loose.

If you can't find anything loose at either end, you have a frayed cable.

the auto tranny cables can stretch out... I saw one that stretched out so bad that it couldnt shift all the way over into 1st gear lol All it takes is a new cable and everything is like new

If its automatic. Check on top of the column behind the dash, there are two torx bolts I think, they can come loose, its for the shifter. Not sure if yours is that style or not.

Yes very likely its those torx bolts under the dash. Mine were loose not too long ago.
Action Rick is the man with the pictures on this one. See his first post in this thread

Yup, I've tightened those bolts on numerous trucks.
