The reflector has to reflect red color when another light source is shined on it. The tail/brake light has to show red when energized. But the lens can be clear with some sort of red bulb or LED when on. I have seen lens for our trucks that have a LED light behind a clear lens but I can remember where, I think maybe E-Bay Hope this help

evil bay Item number: 250339096516 Clear tail lights, let us know where you get the bulbs, I may try a set of these. I never thought they would be bright enough.

You can buy red LED 1157's at autozone. If you put amber LED 1157's in the front, you will also need to buy the ceramic resistor next to the bulbs. Your lights will blink very fast without the load resistor.

Since I have the mechanical truck flashers would I still have to do this? I do not have the factory electronic flashers, which means if one of my front or rear bulbs burn out the other one will still flash.
Thanks

I have modified my taillight housing in the back to use the oval Taillights we use in our Big Rigs. Since I did that my blinkers/flashers don't blink/flash I need to get the resistors, the LED just use so much less juice that there is not enough resistance for the flasher mechanism to build up heat to flash.

They are made with 2 different types of metal(Bi-metal or mechanical swich) as the conector for the circuit. when the juice flows thru they heat up at different time and the cooler one bends the hot one just enough to break the circuit, then while there is no power they cool off and close the circuit again and it does that over and over till you hit the switch again. I hope that made alittle bit of sense

I run clear taillights as well as clear side marker lights, and 78 / 79 front turn signals.
Difficult to find, but I have them.
I also use LED's in all of the lights.

Dont mind the giant dent:
