06 6.0 F250 inputs

Ladies, gents,

Good evening. I am currently looking at an F250 from a dealer.

Here is what I can confirm about the truck(from the small amount I can see): bulletproofed, egr delete, act tune (unsure of the tune), running green coolant (shouldn't it be gold?) No white residue around degas, oil is clean, doesn't smell burnt, AC is cold, 109K miles, no smoking from exhaust, no ticks, knocks, shifts smooth from drive to reverse and neutral. Power is defiantly there, no crazy smoke clouds when I got into the throttle. All in all a nice truck. Few cosmetic things here and there (dings, knicks, dents) but all very small and easily repairable.

The downsides: aftermarket intake/ air filter, the tune "is for performance and gas mileage". The only bad rust I can find on the truck is the did rental cover. Added a picture. Also there is an orange substance on the driversidea in the engine compartment where a hose busted. I can't Id it, but wanted some input.

He's asking 16,9k but is flexible.

So what say you? I'm gasser literate, but new to diesels.

Thanks in advance!

Orange substance

Aftermarket air filter

Ok, here is a uneducated opinion. Truck looks great and with only 109,000.
1 you got a drivers side rear brake line leak
2 I thought that air filter comes with a cover ( I may be wrong on that)
3 if that orange stuff is from a broken radiator hose you're going to be replacing an oil cooler soon. That's rust.
4 I would carry it to a dealer or shop and have them scan it for codes and just check it out.

Really a good price if everything checks out!!

Oh snap I didnt even see that Break line leak, thanks man! I think it does come with a top soon Yea I'll have to figure that out. I was thinking it was maybe sand or a mixture of all the salt from the air down here in florida. But rust makes sense.

I'll have to see if I can find a shop bear by. Thanks again!

Green coolant is no good. Under hood pics tell me there are problems and probably not the best maintenance. To me, it looks like a can of worms. Don't do it.

It was prob puking,, and water was ran in the truck for too long,, thus the rust. Then I would assume they studded it but didn't clean very well.

Can't really tell, but in the first pic that looks like a head bolt instead of a stud.

Diesels are way too sensitive to have green coolant, rust in the system, and probably a plugged oil cooler.
I'd get some live data including the delta's for eot and ect temps.
No surprise if those numbers are bad. Maybe why it's been egr deleted if previously blown.
I would get much more info before pulling the cord to buy.
Also, oil should be black, if clean/clear, it was just changed which might raise more suspicions.

I would be very, very hesitant considering the truck has been modded, has stock head bolts, rust, etc. i'm not sure where you are from but the underside looks terrible (coming from a norcal perspective) and there are plenty of bone stock low mileage trucks around that would be a better deal.

If you decide to pursue this one, put a pressure guage on the degass and run it hard up a long hill to ensure ZERO headgasket leakage as well as the other scan guage checks. Finally, take it to a trusted diesel mechanic for a complete once over to verify injector condition, etc. Using wrong coolant, condition of engine bay, etc indicate the owner wasnt too knowledgable or **** about maintaining the truck. Not the ideal previous owner scenerio you want.

To give you a perspective, i just bought a 70k mile 2006 f250 king ranch that was all stock and in excellent condition. Underside looks like it was driven a few times in the rain- zero rust or mud and all the assembly chaulk markings still clearly visible. I paid a little over $20k which wasnt a steal but prices in california run higher than texas and other places. Id personally keep looking...
