I bought a rebuilt distributor that was supposed to be for a 59 292. It has some differences in appearance though. It has a triangular shaped stem and on the stem the part number is C9ZF-12131-A below the cap on the lip it does have the 12127 dist number and says motocraft. It is a single point system. Is this the right distributor or not? I am having some problems with the advance on it.

Hi Idaho,

I'm not really strong on your vintage of truck, but I wanted to write something to bump this back up to the top so it doesn't die.

Number Dummy Bill is the expert on part numbers here at FTE and a very strong source of info on your truck would be Col Flashman.

If you don't get any strong responses, you might want to PM either one of those guys.

Good Luck,
Julie

I can't give you an exact application but C9ZF will be for something of 1969 vintage or later. Also the Motorcraft line was not introduced until well after 1959.
When you indetify it you will have some good trading material.
Good luck.

I found out it was for a 69 car but do companies tend to remanufacture and use car distributor bodies and make them to fit truck specs?

I think that is probably an accurate statement although I don't think there is any chance that the dist will fit a Y block as the dist housing for a Y-block is physically different from the dist for any engines that were being built in 1969. Can tou compare the two. I think the difference will be obvious.
Check the gear and the distance from the gear to the mounting flange at the block.

It is currently in my 272 Y-block and running. I checked the advance without vacumn and it does not advance. I think I am going to pull it out. I have an old remanufactured distributor for a 63 292 I am going to try. I will check any differences when I pull out the 69. Thanks for your help. I will keep you up to date.

C9ZF is a 1969 Mustang, but the rest of the dizzy ID number is in-correct.

I need: C9ZF-12127- _ the following letter is one of these four: B, D, E or F. This number is stamped on the dizzy body.

I have the same C9ZF-12131-A distributor in a 1957 F100 wit a 1974 302 under the hood, at least I think its a 1974 302, thats all I coud determine from the # on the block.
