Oil leak in the valley

I found a small oil leak in the valley while changing my gpr. The oil is in the little recessed spot in the block under where the innercooler pipes join. Any ideas where to start looking?

Clean your valley out with simple green or other similar products and watch it and see which way the oil flows it could be from the HPOP plugs or HPOP fittings or from the turbo.

How do you go about cleaning it? There is way more stuff in the way than my 96 had.

First cover your alternator and the cap to your Powersteering fluid since you have the stock air box you don't need to cover it up. Soak it down with Simple Green or mean green and blow it off with a water hose.

Have you done the CCV mod? If not, check the orange boots (they'll be covered in sludge and won't look orange if you've never cleaned it) below the IC tubes that connect to the intake manifold. The passenger one seems to work it's way loose and can cause a mess, or little puddle of oil.

I have a leak from the HPOP plug and I have changed the o-ring a couple times now. I am getting frustrated with it so I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly how to go about changing it. I have heard that the threads have to be completely clean of oil before you can reinstall the plug. that seems nearly impossible. So how can I clean the threads and also would anyone recommend putting High Temp RTV silicon on the o-ring. or should I just leave it dry.

Sorry to jump in on your thread with my own problem but, I really need help.

What type of O-ring are you using? Here's a write up on how to fix the end plug leak https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...fferently.html

I was using o-rings from the hardware store. but someone sent me a link to a site that sells the o-rings for the HPOP. I have the right o-ring now. I just want this fix to last longer then the last 2 which only lasted a couple days.

I tightened the top clamp on the passenger side orange boot a few turns. Nothing was oily to the sight or tough except the little puddle??

The good advice has already been given. Clean things up, then keep an eye on it. The boots are easy to check and can work loose, so I don't mind suggesting you tighten them down first. A loose boot also tends to create an oily gunk on the EBPV actuator rod, which is another possible source for a small leak, so make sure you wipe that thing off too. It's a real pain to reach or even see, but stand on the passenger side and peek down under the exhaust coming off the turbo. The EBPV is part of the turbo pedestal.

With a loose orange boot, mine looked like this

If you clean it up so it looks like this

You'll be able to tell if you've got oil leaking out around the shaft after you drive it with the engine cold (and cold outside temps).
