Ok guys, here is the official word. I picked up my truck today, and when I started her up, she idled so smooth it made me thing of a babies behind… As for the issue that caused this, I was told that the #8 cylinder (hence the P0308/P0316 codes) had a failure inside the valve guide. Not in the guide itself, which is aluminum, but a plastic like seal that goes inside the guide. I suppose this seal keeps the oil from working its way down into the combustion chamber; this piece somehow wore causing the valve to operate at a slight angel causing the valve to not seat properly in the head. Since this piece failed, my certified pre-owned warrantee did cover the repair, which was a God sent for me. But the fact remains that the other dealer just wanted to sell me a new engine period. There was no request to inspect beyond the scoping of the cylinder and compression test. Just pay them $6500
The dealer that did the repair told me that a person from Ford came in and inspected the head and took it with him to see if they can figure out what caused this failure. But my truck now sits in my garage with a new head, with all new plugs, fresh oil, filter, and coolant. I can’t be any happier with the results in my dealings with “My new dealer” and Ford Motor Company. I was treated exceptionally well at this dealership; not a single unpleasant person in the place.
I feel that Ford did own up to its warrantee that was provided with the purchase of this truck and I came away with a renewed sense of comfort with Ford.
Don’t get me wrong: I love my truck! I just felt like Fo Mo Co was not keeping their word with the coverage they promised.
I now stand corrected!
