Why does my Expy sit higher in the front than the back?

I bought a 2000 Expy, 4x4, 5.4L, 28K miles, totally stock. When I measure from the ground up to the bottom of the wheel wells, the front sits 1" higher than the back. Its on level ground, even turned it around and measured again to be sure. I thought it looked like it was sitting crooked so I measured it. Is this normal on Expys? I think it looks kinda lame to have the front higher than the back.

I think standard, although I'm not sure how I'd know for sure. I dont hear anything pumping up or ever see it moving so I assume I dont have it or I do have it and it doesnt work.

Well it's kind of important to know since each suspension would require completely different steps to repair it.

Sorry to sound like an idiot, but I just bought it and don't know much about it. Is there an easy way to confirm it either way?

Its a XLT that doesnt have too many options so I really doubt it has air ride, but if it does and it doesn't work, I suppose that could be my problem?

The most obvious way without crawling underneath to look for air bags is to see if there is a disable switch for it down on the passenger kick panel. No switch=no air ride suspension.

ok, I have no switch, no airbags, must be regular ole suspension. Same question as above, but add regular old suspension to it. Any ideas? I read about a front torsion bar on here, not sure how to check that.

Sounds like someone cranked up the torsion bars to me. Easy enough to lower. Have you tried a search? Maybe someone has posted pics on how to adjust them?

Funny.. My 98 is exactly the same. Totally stock sans some Bilsteins. I think the rear springs sag or something. I've really been trying to figure this out for quite some time now.
Has anyone tried the rear coil spring spacers or those little twist in leveling blocks your put in between the coils? I really don't want to start messing with the torsion bars if I can help it...

Sorry to threadjack(kind of) btw.

EDIT:

Just found these online. Maybe these will help level the truck perfectly? I'm thinking of trying them out...

Mr. Gasket 1283 Coil Spring Twist - Set of 4
Mr Gasket 1283 Coil Spring Booster Jumbo Use these twist-in coil spring boosters to increase ride height for improved weight transfer or to stiffen the ride.

Those twist in spring lifts cause premature spring failure.

You can back off the torsion bar adjuster to lower the front end, or replace the rear springs to bring the back end up. If the vehicle was used for towing often, the rear springs would've weakened, resulting in the sag.

Here's the odd part, its a 2000 with only 28000 original miles and no tow bar installed. I looked underneath and it does not appear that it ever had a tow bar. The hole in the bumper doesnt even look like it ever had a ball in it. I know its 8 yrs old but I didnt think it would sag with that little amount of miles. Maybe with age alone it would sag?

Is this documented somewhere? Also how premature are we talking here? Like 5 miles after you install these or 50K? Just wondering...

The truck doesn't get driven often so I may just try these anyways and post back.

i believe the front wheel wells are higher than the rears. Do a google image search. That said I just replaced rear springs and bilsteins all around and it did bring up the rear a bit. Mine has 129k howver...wouldn't expect yours to sag with your miles.

I have an 01 Eddie Bauer 4x4 and it also looks like it sits lower in the rear. Sure way to tell is to measure the running boards in front and rear to see if there is a true difference or if the wheel wells are just bigger. I plan on using spring spacers to raise the rear up some. I used them before on vehicles and never had any problem with springs wearing out. I would rather do that then lower the front via the torsion bars for two reasons. One is you will need to do an alignment if you mess with the torsion bars and two I like the look of the Expeditions sitting up higher.
