05-08 F150 4x4 advice

I'm looking to pick up a "new" truck, or new to me truck, and would like some opinions. I dont know much about the F150's so school me if you can.

Looking for something lifted or can lift it after purchase. Needs to be a 4dr.

5.4 seems like a must but what gear ratios should i be looking for?

Any yrs i should stay away from? Any particular options to stay away from?

Sure like the Kings Ranch interior. Does that option add anything else to the truck? Definately want leather.

I see alot of them advertised with a 5 1/2 ft bed. Is there any other option on a 4dr?

Sorry for so many questions, but i need to find one real soon.

Yes, you can get a 6.5 bed...well worth it in my opinion...

3.73s would be the only factory gears you should consider...those are the highest offered short of the 163" HD package, which ISN'T a crew cab.

Most here would suggest staying away from '04s and '05s, after that, most of the bugs were worked out.

Not sure how much you know about lift kits and the like, but please...PLEASE don't spend your money on a lift and big tires only to come on here whining about lousy MPGs!

Other than that...go fer it!

The family truckster is a 2000 4x4 V10 Excursion, so i gave up on crying about mpg yrs ago! Lift would only be 4" pretty mild by some standards.

Is the cab bigger with a 5.5 bed? Still i would go with 6.5 as advised.

No difference in cab, just box length. If I remember right, the 6.5 box extends the wheelbase from 134" to 150"

Here's mine...is this similar to what you're looking for?

Get the 5.4 with 3.73 LS...especially if you are lifting it later down the road.

also, you said 4" of lift. You can fit 35" tires with just a 2.5" leveling kit...or a 6" lift. The 4" is a waste of time with the 04-08 F-150

I personally wouldn't touch an 05 model. They are good trucks, but Ford was still identifying and correcting issues until the 06 models arrived.

A King Ranch is the top line F-150. So if you want everything, that is the truck to get. The Leather in it is Saddle Leather. The Lariat/FX4 have a different style of leather...and you can't get Leather in the XLT.

Personally, I suggest you pick up a 06+ FX4 with the Luxury Package. Option wise, it's the equivalent of a Lariat (all the goodies with Leather). Not the mention the 5.4 is standard with a 3.73 rear end, skid plate, "offroad" shocks, and a cool little sticker

Great info guys. The 2.5 leveling kit sounds like the way to go. I'm not looking to stuff 35's under it so it's probably more than enough.

I'll be looking for the longer wheelbase. Thanks for the pic.

The current market conditions are perfect to be a buyer. I just want to make sure i buy the right truck.

Not sure where you are located, but here is a nice (not flawless but really nice) rig in Texas. I was eye-balling this one for a while.
4 door, 6.5' bed, FX4 (3.73 gears with 5.4L)
eBay Motors: Ford : F-150 (item 400017929143 end time Dec-25-08 17:41:02 PST)

Forgive me if i seem confused but isn't "Super Crew" the same as "Crew Cab" the same thing? Or does Super Crew mean Extended cab?

i prefer the 5.5" bed myself. But i dont put alot in the bed. If i need to haul a large amount i have a 16" trailer to put on the hitch. I own a 07 Screw Lariet with a 5.4 and a 07 Screw XLT 4x4 with a 4.6. the 4x4 has a 2.5" level kit on it and i think it looks aggressive as can be. I love both truck but really like the 5.4 over the 4.6. 3:73 gears are not quite large enough for the 4.6. Going to replace them with 4:56s soon

there is a reason the F-150 is the #1 selling truck in the world..and until recently the #1 selling vehicle.

they rock. I'm on my 8th F-150 I think...somewhere bout there anyways.
