Saginaw Power steering gear leaks

My 69 F250 has the Saginaw gear in it (4 bolt top cover) and it leaks badly.
over a pint a day. Is there a kit available to replace the seals on the input and output shafts?
Or does anyone have the seal numbers, I might be able to purchase them separately.
I have left a bucket at work and at home to catch the oil. I just follow the dark trail between home and work everyday, it's that bad..
Thanks

Yes, they offer a kit. I don't know the part number. If you can't find it let me know.

If you know were to find a kit, kudos to you.
Let me know, I have called all the parts places here in Salt Lake, and I came up empty.
Since it is a saginaw gear, the suggestion from a napa guy was to use a rebuild kit from a GMC sag box, PN 7-124
Thanks

Edelmann 8519. I am sure your gear box is the same as mine. Mine is a 72 F250 Saginaw. Let me know what you find. I will send one to you if needed. The kit was around $30.00 for a entire rebuild kit. The only thing you can't get is the two bushings in the lower portion.

Power steering gear leak

Well, Bad news. I ordered the kit #8519 It isn't the right one
I am afraid we were both incorrect, It isn't a saginaw box, it is made by Bendix
Tag #HCE-G 128547
I have found a couple of suppliers for replacement boxes, $250 going rate for a new one
I don't really want to spend that if I don't have to.
So once again I ask the question is there a rebuild kit available

Thanks

OOoopppsss. I can't help you any further. Would it be worth replacing it with the Saginaw? I here they are of better quality.

Power steering leaks

It's Ok
I was mistaken on what type of box it was.
Anyway I was wondering about using clear power steering fluid vs. trans fluid
On the older mid 60's Ford Type F fluid was in the trannys and the power steering.
On this truck I still use type F fluid. Should I flush it out with clear power steering fluid?

I have located an industrial supplier here in town that will match up the O-rings and seals for this Bendix box. So I have hope that I can get this beast back on the road

I am not sure about the fluid. I use power steering fluid in mine. Seems like everyone that is asked uses tranny fluid because of the cheaper price.

Here is a bit more info on seal kits a friend passed onto me.

Greg
Here is what I have found listed in the Ford Parts catalog.
I have also ran a parts search and have included the following.

C6TZ.3E500.A (steering gear seal kit)
C6TZ.3E501.A (steering seal kit for sector shaft only)
C6TZ.3E502.A (steering seal kit for input shaft only)
you will either need Qty 1 3E500 kit(this should be complete kit) or Qty
1 each 3E501 and 3E502 kits to be complete
unless of course you can get by sealing any one end (sector or input) then you can just order either the sector or input kit

danev2: I have a 68 F250 with a Bendix box and a new seal kit thru Ford 4 years ago.
The kit part # C6TZ-3E500-A, now no longer available thru Ford, I installed it January
2004, it started to leak June 2004 at the steering input shaft. Inside is like new as I'm a low mileage truck with a cooler under the bumper with Neo oil. I'm having a seal shop manufacture a custom seal for the input shaft, the factory seal leaks only when the engine is shut down, it's fit in the housing was loose even when new. All other seals can be purchased at a good bearing/seal house. Bushings are metal backed bearing bronze by F M ,they are no longer available thru F M, I machined my own and made guide bushings for the reamer. I'm quoted at $75 for the "*******" seal, this is cheaper than a exchange box or Saginaw conversion, maybe later I'll go to a Saginaw. Good luck, Carl. ...............o&o>..........................

I had a leaky seal at the joint above the box near the firewall. I started using LUCAS products power steering fluid and the leak has stopped. Good luck!

As I'm a licensed aircraft mechanic I repair not patch. The Lucas or any other stop leak additive will swell and soften up seals, when the solvents evaperate out you'll have a leak worse than before. The solvents will attack any and all seals and hoses including the seals in the pump, like taking muscle relaxers for a back strain, what's it doing to the heart muscle? The seal kit from Ford fits loose for the input shaft housing, I'm having custom seals made that have a interference fit in the box housing. Hard pipe the return line to a cooler from 2,000 on trucks and you'll reduce the pump heat and extend seal life. Carl............o&o>.............................. ...................
