As broke as our state is the last thing we should be doing is giving companies an incentive to leave.

So for the first time they are mandating a retrofit of emissions control systems that did not previously exist on these older engines, and is not even available or viable for these engines.

Exactly how is that possible? Oh wait, its California. They make up laws as they go with total disregard to common sense.

"State officials said the compliance cost is outweighed by an estimated $48 billion to $69 billion in health benefits for Californians afflicted with illnesses caused by breathing diesel fumes."

What?

Are they making the claim that diesel fumes account for, in California, 48-billion to 69-billion in health 'damages'?

I'd like to see the study THOSE geniuses did on that. Pretty lofty claim. And more B.S. from legislators and bureaucrats in a State doing it's damndest to destroy itself......

It does not affect the toys most of us drive? However I assume that most of you are aware that your 96+newer diesel vehicles will be smooged in Ca. starting 2010! Other states have preceeded us in this.....

They cause it to themselves by smoking, living in and around large populated cities, eating junk (not that I exclude myself) so for us to clean up our vehicles is not going to change the health as much as they claim. We'd have to force everyone to stop drinking, smoking, to exercise, eat healthy and walk to work. I don't see anyone in a square mile from I live doing any of that.

Well look on the bright side... because of Federal Interstate commerce laws, California won't be able to stop people from coming in from other states who don't meet these new requirements.

So when it happens, I'll go buy a 1980s Mack and take for a stroll past the capitol, belching black smoke, with a jake brake loud enough to shatter windows.
