Question 2003 Ranger Fuel Pump Replacement

Tested my fuel pump by hotwiring it ... it was a no go.. so I need to replace it.

Bed is off and getting the lines off the pump assembly is done.

Problem is that the "mason jar" ring that holds the pump into the tank doesn't want to move...
  • Is there a locking mechanizm?
  • Should it just turn off?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I don't want to go banging on the large plastic "Jar lid/ring" with a hammer and a punch.

There is no locking mechanism. Thread only. But if this ring was not unscrewd for many years it is really difficult to remove. Well, use a small wood bar and nock ring with small hummer throught this bar.

I used a large 'water pump' pliers. They have a slip-jaw that you can get wide enough to reach from one corner of the retaining ring to one corner of the tank, and squeeze slowly. You don't have any impact to cause sparks, and can apply just enough pressure to unscrew the ring.

Why is there a horn in the back in the 4th picture?

Nocking wood with hammer makes no sparks.

This is not a horn, This is spare lift. This tube made like a horn helps to fit bar to turn spare tire lift.
