Things to consider as you approach the 3 yr / 36k point

For those that are nearing the end of the 3 yr / 36 k warranty you may want to consider a few things. Ford has issued some TSB's on items that may become problems over time (or may have already been). Before the end of the warranty, check your system over to see if you are beginning to have issues in these areas (sometimes they are not real noticeable at first, but get worse with time, some are just aesthetics):

1. Window scratched by improper seal causes scratching on the windows fic - they replace the seals (TSB 07-10-5)
2. Vibration/Hop at 40-48 MPH, Truucks with Trailer Hitch:
(they put a dampner kit in) TSB 07-5-11 (damper kit (P/N 5C3Z-5D008-A))
and
Steering Wheel Shimmy After Riding Over Bumps/Ruts: fix- various things, including a steering dampner upgrade (TSB 07-10-10)
and
DRIVE-AWAY SHUDDER OR VIBRATION fix - shim (TSB 06-23-4)
3. 2005-07 Bucking/Jerking when Towing: fix - computer update (TSB 07-6-9)
4. 2005/06 F-Series Front Suspension Bottoms Out: fix - new jounce bumpers (TSB 08-12-12)
5. 2005-07 4X2 Front Wheel Bearing Noise: Fix is revised dust shields Trucks built before 7-21-06 (TSB 06-16-2)
6. 2005-07 Bucking/Jerking when Towing: fix - revised computer program
(TSB 07-6-9)
7. Driveability / Hard start / rough idle / Surge - computer program to install the inductive heat flash if you do not have it, and PCM update. (TSB 07-05-04 and 06-23-9)
8. Light Surge after Turbo Replacement: fix Turbo VGT replacement and new turbo oil line (TSB 05-21-5)
and
WHINE/WHISTLE NOISE-6.0L fix - Replace the EGR cooler to Y-pipe gasket (TSB 05-21-9)
9. LACK OF A/C COOLING DUE TO DESICCANT MATERIAL CLOGGING THE ORIFICE TUBE fix - flush and repair (08-13-5)
10. RUST STAINS ON THE EDGES OF THE FRONT BUMPER CENTER VENT AND FOG LAMP OPENINGS (TSB 08-12-6)
11. LEATHER-WRAPPED STEERING WHEEL - LEATHER COMING LOOSE fix - replace (TSB 07-4-3)
12. VIBRATION DIAGNOSTICS - STEERING WHEEL NIBBLE - TIRE WHEEL RUNOUT AND BALANCE fix - various (TSB 08-24-2)
13. STUCK OR JUMPING / BOUNCING / ERRATIC SPEEDOMETER AND/OR TACHOMETER fix - replace cluster (TSB 07-11-2)
14. DRIVELINE NOISE UNDER LIGHT LOAD - 40-50 MPH (64-80 KM/H) - 6.0L REGULAR CAB 4X2 WITH 137 INCH WHEELBASE fix - replace driveshaft (TSB 07-13-7)
15. TAILGATE STRIKER - NOISE/RATTLE fix - parts replacement (TSB 07-25-2)
16. BELT CHIRP - POWER STEERING PUMP PULLEY ALIGNMENT - 6.0L - VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN 1/1/2006 - 8/31/2006 fix - parts replacement (TSB 07-26-1)
17. WATER LEAKS - ROOF OPENING PANEL DURING HIGH PRESSURE CAR WASH fix - new seal (TSB 08-24-8)

Also - get someone to listen closely to your front wheels when you pull into a parking space OR check for vacuum leaks on the front wheel hubs. They are a little weak.

Be sure to look over the truck closely (look for leaks, listen for odd sounds, any bad smells, smoke, loss of coolant, grabbing brakes, bad A/C performance, rough starts, really poor fuel economy, etc). Many issues may be covered by the 5yr/100k warranty if you really do find a problem (or the 5yr/60k if you bought the truck after July 14 2006 IIRC), but you never know.

FYI - The book calls for a tranny flush at 30k (or you can drain the fluid and change the external filter)

I am not saying to fabricate problems, but pay attention to these potential trouble spots.

I had the steering dampner and the window seals done. I paid (apprx $100)for the updated flash on the computer processors (PCM, ECM, etc) and very glad I did!<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

I think most of these TSB's are findable here and on other sites, but if anyone wants a copy (or can't find a link), let me know.

Bismic - Great info and thanks for posting. Question though. I got the Premium Care ESP and it expires in 2011. Will these items or can these items still be fixed on my truck without the out of pocket expense other than my deductible? Just wondering because I have the window scratches as well as the need for the steering damper fix. Thanks.

It could cover some of the items ... depending on the Plan. The plan below states it covers seals, so the window seals should be covered. I am not convinced that they would replace the windows under this coverage however. It may depend on the dealership.

EDIT - will post more info in another post

Just looked over the "PremiumCare" ESP. Looks like it would cover most of the items we discussed (at a standard $100 deductible). Keep in mind several of the items listed wouldn't cost much more than the $100 deductible (like the computer flashes).
