highest miles on original tires?

Anyone have high miles on their original tires? I was going to change mine a few months ago, then other expenses came up, and mine still have some tread left at 61k miles. I have an 04 FX4 supercab, with the 18inch BFG Rugged Trails.

I haven't rotated them in quite a while, they are wearing evenly....I think that's pretty darn good and will now get the same ones again when it's time.

Took mine off at 150 miles. So I may have the lowest mileage on stock tires.

mrshark, you are one of the few people I have ever heard to praise those BFG Rugged Trails.

Glad they worked out for you

I'll let you know in 8-10 years then. My truck is a year old and only has 8000 miles on it.

I wouldn't keep tires on a vehicle for more than 4-5 years even if the tread depth is good. The rubber deteriorates with time and is more prone to tread separation:

Tire Tread Separation Anxiety - Discount Tire Co.
"As an estimate, in about three years roughly one-third of a tire's strength is gone, just because of the normal process of aging..."

That's about trailer tires in particular but it applies to all tires.

hmmm, these tires have treated me well so far....I was looking at the Michelins, but they were over $200 a piece, I looked at a set of Nitto's that I liked as well, but don't know anyone who's had them to ask their opinion of them.

We put BFG Radial TA's on my wife's Escape at 30k miles, and she now has over 91k miles and the treads on those are good as well.

I'll see how long I can go, and I'll watch the treads and sidewalls for any cracking issues, but for now they stay on.

Did brakes once on each vehicle so far.

I've got 4yrs and about 38K on mine. They're down halfway where the lower treads are even with everything else and there's about 3/16" left before the wear bars.

Don't know if it's my imagination or not, but they seem to be getting noiser as they're wearing down--the interior of the cab seems real noisy from road noise on the freeway these days.

I'm thinking of swapping them out sometime this coming summer.

Tires aren't something I will compromise a few $$. Remember guys, we've got almost 3 tons and your life riding on those things....

I personally like fresh tires, whatever I can budget, usually a medium grade like Dunlop AT or Good Year T/A radials and change as soon as they look dry, 3-4 years or 30,000 mi. max. The Hankooks on the new trucks seem pretty good, they were much better towing the boat out of the launch than I thought, the one launch is steep and they never slipped, right out.

I'm lucky to get 20K from a set of tires, then again I've got V-rated tires.
