My black 56 Ford is the ultra clean one in the projects link on SOCP.net...now it's gone!

Michigan Rick

keep the Merc pics coming.
I had no idea about the Mercs till I was trying to figure if I wanted to build the truck. I almost bought a Bronco and sold the 60 till I found out about the Mercs and I found a 56 in Ontario (Pardon the spelling eeh) but loved the look of the 60 better and found the parts the next week so here I am blaming Canada for my passion.

and I will keep posting pics and thanks for starting the thread hope it stays alive for further research

Howdy John...and same to you and yours.

I was told by some of the guys in our club.......the Mercurys were sort of undesireable back in the day...so alot of them were stripped of their badging and made into Fords!???

The Merc lens were never repoped and are one of the rarest things in the car hobby...even for my friends to the north. So the boys say..

Rick, Back in the early 70's when I was working on my 56 pickup I went to Whiteys Auto Parts in Howell, Mi., I took out the instrument panel on a 56 Ford Meteor P.U. not realizing what I could have had. It was in very good shape and still had air in the tires, O well, someone hopefully did save it. John P.S. wonder if any of those are still around.

I`m unaware of any Meteor pick ups, as far as I know there was only Ford or Mercury trucks. Meteors were Canadian cars.

Morris, Well that was 30+ years ago and as we get older the memory gets fuzzy but I wonder if someone just added the letters to be different. I thought The word Meteor was on the grill insteat of the V8 badge, I went back the next day but it was sold. John

meteor was a trim level of Canadian cars (Ford), except for 1962-63, which was their own style of fairlane ( I have a 4 door). Maybe it was a truck too, but I find very little info on that. AFAIK, the Rancheros were only Ford as well. Someone could've very well just added the letters from 1962. 1963 they changed to the smaller cursive writing emblem.

Mercury Flareside Pickup Taillights

FAE13450A .. MERCURY "Shield Type" Taillamp Lens.

Used on Mercury Flareside pickups from 1953 thru 1960.

1953/60 Ford Flareside pickups used a similar lens, but it said F O R D on it.

In 1961, both the F O R D and M E R C U R Y embossed block lettering was removed from the lenses. These later lenses are plain: C1TZ13450C.

I do not know if the MERCURY lens has been reproduced (the FORD version has), but here's some obsolete parts vendors that have some:

Collectors Auto Supply in Oroville WA has 22 = 800-414-4462.

Lincoln Old Parts Store in Clearwater FL has 15 = 727-445-1091.

btw: I got this FAE13450A part number from the 1953 Mercury Truck Parts Catalog.

The Ford shield type lenses that have a chrome Ford script on them are not original.

The script was originally from the sides of the 1941 Ford passenger cars. These lenses were first up made in the 1960's by SoCal Pickups 'n Panels (now out of business).

Bill-- Thanks for the reply. The part number and the vendors will really help. Tomorrow I will make some calls and let everyone know if they have any left.
Thanks Richard
