I pulled a 302 out of a 81 van once and it had a rear sump or close to rear . Not a front sump because i had to change it to a front sump to use in a falcon. I don't know anything about a 306 , new to me never heard of one.

I think the one on my 94 mustang had a rear sump pan? What transmission do you plan on running?

I've got a 302 in my 79 4x4. I'm running one of those "dual sump" fox body mustang pans. It clears everything just fine.

Its like this one

With a van pan you only have one drain plug and it all drains. The 83 mustang i had back then had two drain plugs and you do need to remove both to get all oil out .It's okay but just another plug and seal to maintain when you service it.

Very True about the fox body pan. They do work.
On my current project, I used a Moroso 351w pan for a fox body. works great, but yeah there are 2 drain plugs.

If you have a 4" suspension lift a front sump pan can work. but it will crash with the axle if it is not lifted.
