The whole point of my post was to correct the location of the VIN tag/plate. If I did not use the proper Ford terminology please excuse my ignorance.

A VIN Plate isn't a Warranty Plate.
So if this is a warranty plate:

What was this tag called?

And what did Ford call the hard card with the aluminum tag on the bottom of it that came with the owners manual?

Picture if needed.

Don't need a pic, I've had at least 11 issued when I bought new, found a bunch in other vehicles I've owned.

Owners card.

Ahh, certification label. I can honestly say I didn't know that and you have taught me something new today Bill!

I also figured you knew what the Owners card was.

I would guess the most common error is that it says the 351M/400 has a 4BBL carb.

That truck has a HD44/D60 with external hubs on it, not a 78-79 D60.

The VIN checks out as a 1979 F350 4WD Regular Cab (F36), and all these came with the 4500 lb. capacity Dana 60 front axle as original.

Hey um, i was wondering if the rivets on the vin plate are punched in?
or just flattened out in the inside?

I used the OE rivets when I put the plate back on and opened them up. Originally the rivet does not have the open hole in the center as mine does.

Either the XLT badge inside or the Custom badge outside was added. It was either or, not both. 1979 was the first year for a one ton thus the reason for the rarity.

I didn't know the F350 4X4 Ranger XLT or Lariat was only available for 1979 (Speaking Dent Side years). Guess that makes mine even more rare than I thought.

Note, this sure is an old thread brought back to life.

No kidding i figured it was the SCS / XLT combo that made it rare. I have a hunch the XLT stuff was add the Custom stuff seems to be origional, but it did come with AC, but no cruise. No woodgrain either thank god
