FX4 gauge bezel in an XLT
I have a 2005 XLT with a full guage compliment in the bezel - speedo, tach, oil, temp, fuel and volts.
What I am wondering is if I can swap in a really snappy looking 2005 FX4 unit that has the same gauges, but located in different places.
Obviously, it will fit physically, and I'd be willing to be that the plug-ins are the same. The big question is are they wired similarly, but only the locations are different.
As usual, any help would be appreciated!

I think you have to pay the dealer to program/activate it so it works with your truck's computer.
also, if you notice it says FX4 in the middle, meaning that gauge came out of a truck with the center console shifter. You might be better off looking for a FX4 gauge that came out of a column shift FX4 so that you still have the gear shift indicator (P,R,N,D,2,1) for your column shift XLT.

plug and play
the major functions will work.
does your XLT have a tach?
the dealership will have to reprogram the mileage, and also to turn on the tach, compass.
but otherwise, the main guages will act like OEM and be just fine. Unlike older vehicles, the Inst. Cluster holds the mileage info...but the ECM controls the gauges and displays on the Inst. Cluster (via the CAN network)
