I get multiple instances of this process, depending on how many times I've hit 'End Now'. I have waited it out, but usually I just kill the process, and life is good -- despite the dreadful warnings bout killng processes.

IIRC the dump prep process is that handy little thing that writes out the error messages when an app crashes. It also works with another service that pops up that wonderful little box that says "report this error to microsoft"... Its nothing to worry about, bothersome though.
First things first. Get rid of norton. It's the only anti-virus software I've ever used the DOESN'T find current viruses. I don;t know what the do over at symantec but if I'm paying ~$75 a year for their product/services I want it to work. I use Avast. It's free and it's good.
