It's an exe -- there's some kind of rule about showing that as an extension

I have problems with this process. Every now and again, IE will choke, and I'll try to kill it -- either with the close box or with task manager. Some of the time, things will hang with the CPU at ~ 100%.

I get multiple instances of this process, depending on how many times I've hit 'End Now'. I have waited it out, but usually I just kill the process, and life is good -- despite the dreadful warnings bout killng processes.

Anybody have any wisdom on this issue? I'v run Norton (09) and Spybot multiple times, and they tell me that everything is just peachy keen

IIRC the dump prep process is that handy little thing that writes out the error messages when an app crashes. It also works with another service that pops up that wonderful little box that says "report this error to microsoft"... Its nothing to worry about, bothersome though.

Disable Error Reporting by doing the following on your XP system:

Right click on “My Computer,” choose “Properties” from that menu.

Click on “Advanced tab,”

Click the “Error Reporting” button.

Check the “Disable error reporting” box.

Thanks, I kind of thought that's what it was. I'll disable the error report -- I never knew how much good it did anyway.

First things first. Get rid of norton. It's the only anti-virus software I've ever used the DOESN'T find current viruses. I don;t know what the do over at symantec but if I'm paying ~$75 a year for their product/services I want it to work. I use Avast. It's free and it's good.
