It's that shifting front with the over taking high pressure developing a low ridge compounded by an upper lift that increases the variable winds that parallels the ground.....

Yeah, we were planning for rain too. It was really nice, about 2" or so of snow with a nice hard crusty layer of ice on top. Especially pleasant for cleaning off the truck before leaving for work this morning...
I see we're in for a Friday storm, Sunday storm and X-Mas eve storm all with snow potential.
