390 won't start when warmed up

So I bought a 68 f100 that has been sitting for quite some time, I had to have the carb rebuilt, replace battery and the tires cuz they had flat spots from sitting so long. I drove the car a few months and now when I stop to fill up on gas I can not get it started again, unless I park on a hill and let her roll and pop the clutch. The engine turns over fine and it feels like it would start once but if it does not start that one time I need to find something else to do for a while to let the engine cool down before it will start again(like I flooded the engine?). Also it runs real rough at idle unless I plug the vacuum line going to the carb. Any ideas on what makes the truck unable to start when warmed up unless I doing a rolling start?

The seloniod may not be sending the 12 volts to the coil while in the crank mode.

replaced coil once already

I had the truck break down on me last summer and replaced the coil then. I have the truck on a weekend property as such I don't use it that much, but do you think that the coil would go bad after only 2k miles 10 months?

You need to check out the carb. Esp. the floats.

I second the floats.

Just rebuilt my carb and I had to back the floats off twice to get it to start when warm.

Bump starting shouldn't work either, if it was flooded, tho?

Just giving obvious things to check. Not debating over a car I can't see. Bump starting will sometimes start an engine if the starter is not turning it over fast enough. Another item too check is the starter. If the exhaust is to close to it and it over heats it will not turn over till it cools down. Been there done that one.

No, not debating. Just an observation. Logic is good stuff, especially sight unseen.

Does sound like a vacuum leak, too. Electrically, a marginal coil or something along those lines might not fire during cranking because of the current draw? That would explain bump starting.

on my 428 the no hot start was a combination or hot starter and bad harmonic balancer causing advanced timing.
once i got the new balancer on and the timing dialed in, it started a lot easier. the new starter made it start just as good hot as cold.
