I wonder how heavy one of those ol cars are compared to a sedan of the approximate same size now a days? Would be interesting to see what they deemed to heavy, do you by chance know the weight of one?
The weight itself wasn't a factor, the bulk was the factor.
Compare the two, the Mercury looks much more massive.
When I was a little kid, I recall being driven to PLAP (Portage La Prairie) from the Peg in our neighbour's car. It was a Merc from those years. I don't remember much, except that it seemed like a big car with big wide seats, but then I think I was about 4 or 5.
