I've got a 78 with a 400 and a 4spd behind it. I'm at a point now where I'm trying to figure the easiest/cheapest method to get er back on the road. I have to either rebuild the 400, or find a replacement. I've been told that a 429 is a good motor, but I don't know how hard it would be to bolt in. I just want something strong and reliable. What do y'all think...
Ok, cool. Thanks guys. When it gets to building this motor, are there any specifics I should focus on parts wise? I don't need a race motor...just something to pull a camper or a trailer load of toys. I'd like to keep the cost down as much as I can, but I know fun costs money too. Any suggestions?
The 400 is a solid platform to build off of, it is a very underrated motor that is very capable of putting down great power to the pavement, do your homework and read as much as you can, also check out the forum here for that motor, you will get a ton of info right there.
OH, they have an oiling issue at high rpms, look into the added oil line that fixes that, its simple
