5.4 4V demension vs. 5.4 2V?
I was looking in tech folder and other posts for any info on engine swap a Navigator's 5.4 4V into my 99 E250 motovan project. Data shows me the DOHC 5.4 4V came in 99-2004 Navigators and HP/HO Mustangs.
One moderator thought the 5.4 4V engine would not fit in an E250 engine bay and dog house. However, I do not see why that is an issue since plenty of Econoline Vans came with a V-10 or Diesel engine.
That is, how much larger is a DOHC 5.4 4V engine than the SOHC 5.4 2V? if any?
Anyone on this engine swap forum know for sure? Anyone on this forum done this swap? If you do can you post a reply or PM me and please let me know a list of parts that must be scavenged off the donor Navigator? Thanks

Oddly, that info doesn't seem to be out there like all the other engines.
A 4.6L is 30" wide with DOHC, so figure the 5.4L has to be at least 32, maybe 34.
The 4.6L grows almost 4 1/2" when it goes from SOHC to DOHC. Given the higer deck on the 5.4L, it would probably grow 5"+ in width over the SOHC version.

This says the oil burner is 32" wide.
7.3L Power Stroke Diesel Specs & Info
Working on a 300 six in a van is miserable.
I suggest you measure and mock up and do it all twice before you try to shoehorn that DOHC in there.

Thanks for the chart, good to see & compare dimensions of each modular block. Yes, working on the Van is not roomy fun, I am just checking feasibility based upon my E250 needs an engine and there seems to be a lot of Navigators with the 5.4 4V in bone-yards near my location.
Your chart shows the 5.4 DOCH 4V engine is 2.5" less height than the 7.3 diesel that many Econolines came with and according to 85e150's reply link for the diesel specs, the 5.4 4V is a couple inches narrower than the 7.3. 5.4 4V 28.5" wide vs. 32" wide on the diesel. Finally 5.4 4V is same depth or length as a 2V, where the diesel is longer by a foot?
Bottom line is I have to rebuild the 2V I have, (not impressive torque) swap a 2V crate engine in, or swap a better and/or later engine in boneyard 3V or 4V. Any option sure to be some work to get it done. 7.3 Power Stroke
