Question Seat Belt Retractor Spring?

Is there a way to tighten the seat belt retractor spring? It doesn't seem very strong and often it won't rewind all the way with our help. Maybe it's an early 99' thing, advice?

Great Question.

My 99' is doing the same thing.

I'm thinking mine is just worn out and needs to be replaced.

I just replaced my driver's side belt assy... about $95 at http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214072 .
Don't think there is any adjustment.. Ford really doesn't want anyone messing with it..safety item .

Yeah, especially since some of them have an auto-tension feature that kicks in during an accident. The retractor has a little explosive similar to the air bag that tightens the belt. Wouldnt want that to go off while you're fiddling with the spring and gears

Did it help make the belt retract faster or stronger?

Yes.. it fixed the slow retract problem..The main reason i replace mine was cuz my darn dog chew thru the belt..!! (if you replace them, you need to remove the lower door frame panel to expose the torx bolt)
