I just bought a 2003 F350 6.0L diesel crew cab to pull my fifth wheel. After just a few miles my check engine light came on. After about 150 miles it came off and now it is on again.
Someone put a code scanner on it and said it was 2285 (injector control pressure sensor circuit low).
Does anyone know what this means? The truck seems to run fine.
All the 6.0-s, but especially the 03-s having some issues with the ICP sensor after a while. It's known to have a pigtail, so I'm guessing you should replace the ICP, and get the updated connector also. I personally would do it ASAP, because an ICP failure can leave you on the side of the road with no start problem.
It isn't a loose connection. The ICP sensor gets over 500 psi ( starting pressure for the injectors to fire ) and it is much greater while your engine is running. The early ICP sensors start leaking through and soak the connector, and finally they fail because the diaphragm in them gives up.
When I did replace mine, I didn't get the new connector, but soaked the old one really good with electrical cleaner.
To replace the ICP on the 03 you have 2 options. One is from underneath the truck, but you looking for a real challenge removing the heat shield behind it. The other is from up top, but you have to remove the degas bottle, the FICM, and possibly the turbo up pipe, maybe the turbocharger too, what also a PITA.
Either way you do it, you'll need an ICP socket specifically for your truck. If you are not that familiar with your truck yet, and you decide to do it anyways, you should count it like a whole day job, but definitely a few hours.
Here is a pic where the ICP located on an 03, and I highly recommend you to read the tech folder, and get familiar with the 6.0 bible in it.
I'm leaving the lift but just got word all the front ball joints need to be replaced. I hear thats not too uncommon for a lifted 4x4 truck with 90K on it. I guess thats what you get when you buy used. Hopefully that will be the last of my surprises for now.
