Cool Fuel Filter

Has anyone had the fuel filter cover twist and break? If so....How the hell am I going to get it off so that I can finish my filter change?

Did you break by applying to much force to get it off? Gotta go down to the dealer and get a new cap. Is it the one on the frame rail or on top of the motor? The one on the frame rail's cap cost about $70

There are three different methods (1/2 drive, hex nut, and filter strap whench) to get it off whitch one broke?

It is the one on top....I was using the 1/2 in drive to take it off and it just cracked and crumbled apart. It is still whole and no fuel leaking, but I can not get it off......I guess I will have to get a filter strap or wrench to get it off.

FUEL/WATER SEPARATOR DRAIN PROCEDURE
Use a 15/16ths socket to get it off. Don't over torque these caps. The o-ring seals the cap.

sounds like he broke the one on the engine not the frame rail. might be able to back it off with channel locks.

Use a socket so as not to force it apart when twisting. Lessons learned; do not use the extension drive to open or torque. Use a socket.

15/16ths for engine mounted fuel filter. 36m for frame mounted fuel filter.
