I have to ask is there anyone who has one of these little jewels? I have a neighbor who had a Ford panel truck with one, was used on a bakery route by its previous owner. I have seen them in midget race cars, but never had any personal connection with one. kotzy

 

i got a locked up 37 21 stud sitting in the garage that i think might be the 60 horse . been playi' with it every once in a blue moon . dont know what i'm gonna do with it either .

 

The 60's only have 17 stud heads. I've seen a handful over the years. Cute little things with creative waterpump castings. Two styles - early had tin sides that were staked to the block on the lower end. Last year of production they had cast sides.

55 f350, your 21 would have been an 85 hp. I've got a couple ot them that I bought as parts engines - one had a piston break at rpms and the conrod did a tap dance in the oil pan and the other I keep cause it is a textbook case of freeze cracks.

 

hmm i'll have to keep my eyes open for one then . i've become immersed in the flatties . i might be trading one of my fe's for a running 49 that is in a shoebox , that is in dire need of a rebuild . if anything it's parts at the least .

 

I always wanted (dreamed of) taking a 60Hp Flathead and build/restore one of those old Midget dirt track racers.

 

51 ford, back when I was 17 years old I could have bought 3 of them complete for a hundred bucks apeice. That was 1955 and if I had 300, or even one hundred in my pocket I would have been wearing someone elses pants. kotzy

 

I have only ever seen a pair of heads, but for sure they were a odd unique motor.

 

i was at my grandpops today and my uncle was telling me bout one he has in the shop he bought it probably 20 or 30 years ago for 5 cents a pound so probably 20 bucks no lie

 

We had numerous flathead 221-239 cars, but we never had (or wanted) a v8-60. But growing up in the Detroit area in the 60s-70s, lots of Ford-Merc club members had v8-60 cars. They were SLOW was the usual comment, you could tell the v8-60 cars on our tours because they had trouble keeping up.

Around town, it would be a good race between a Model A and a v8-60. On the freeway the v8-60 would have an edge just because the Model A engine was pushing all that air, worse than a brick. Top speed for the Model A was about 58mph, top cruise was 55mph with a good radiator. The v8-60 could at least cruise easily at 55-60mph.

 

We have about 20 of these sitting in the shop right now. They are a neat little motor. My old man has been building motorcycles with these as the powerplant for the last 9 or 10 years. Thats about the only way they have any power is in a light vehicle or bike.
