Hey guys I have an update:

I just got my truck back home last night, after just being freshly exhausted. The funny thing is I took it to a small repair shop to help save money but the guy does do nice work on top of it. And I originally thought about going all the way to the back corner of the box with the tail pipe. But after he look in his book he was able to run across original cards on how the '58 F-100 exhaust was laid out. It told him all the bends angles and lengths and such. That was even the only big suprise to both him and me but he already had an almost exact replica muffler on hand from when he bought his pipe bender back in the 80's (got a buch of mufflers with it). The only difference was it was 3" shorter but he just added 3" on the tail pipe to make up for it. Other than that this is pretty much exactly how the exhaust looked factory fresh back in '58.

Oh and yea I have to paint hanger bracket and find a new the hanger for the tailpipe.

Here are the pics!!! ENJOY!

Here's an update, this is what I have working on the last couple of days. A new seat for my truck, I think the original is just to tired to invest $$$ in to recover. This seat was from a '81 F-250 that is my dads. It is a truck that has been long retired and waiting to go to the junkyard (351 is tired, a shot tranny, and frame has rotted through is many places).

It is a pretty tight fit, but I think it will work ok. I know the mock up is really bad and chezzy. But I just wanted to get the right height for the front and see how it fit in the truck. Before I went to gung-ho. I raised the front up about 1 3/4" and was planning on the back being flush with the top of the runner system. In the mock up sitting in it, it actually felt pretty good I thought (the height and angle). It is pretty long to, a little longer than I would like but I don't think it will be that big of a problem. As you could see it over hangs the step and is pretty close to the door when closed (and even the side pilar of the cab). I do like the fact that the seat does have an original oldies style look to it that I think will fit in with the looks of the truck really nice.

I was thinking about square tubbing cut at an angle and reweld a piece back in at the angle for the seat to sit on or bolt up to and then bolting that to the runner system. I was going to just drill out the back hole and bolting it right to the runners but I don't know if the angle is to drastic to keep with that idea.

Does anyone have any good/better ideas?

Thanks

Ok update what do you guys think of this? I took some 2" x 1.5" tubing and cut it at an angle and back to 1.75". I ground down the piece I cut off flat, and rewelded to the top of the tubing. Drilled my holes and such and this is what I ended up with.

Looks like it should work out good. That angle might put a little more stress on the rear bolts ( seat to seat track ) . But I don't see it being a problem.

I have these brass washers that are like 1/4 inch thick and have the right clearance hole in them already. I was thinking about taking them and milling them at the same angle and putting one on either side of the stud (to make it so the nut is flat and pushing down evenly). I might not be able to get one on the top side though (stud might not be long enough for one). But I could maybe get by with one on the bottom side. It would atleast help a little bit. But I don't see a huge problem if I don't do it. I just need to make sure I don't overtighten it.

I forgot to mention that I even really like the angle that I put this seat at, I thought it was very comfortable. When I had the seat adjusted all the way back it just hit the gas tank but I find that 2 clicks forward is where I feel comfortable for driving so all is good there.

Thanks for the updates on progress; currently scratching my heads on seat emplacement in my 64 project; those seat bracket angles gave me a ideal for mine.
One question on the seat overall fit; does / is the seat adjuster **** on the side or in front; being a tight fit was wondering on that?
Mines in the front so I have know door issues etc.
Keep up the good work!!!!!

Sorry for the late response I haven't been logged on in a while.

The seat adjuster lever for my seat is located right where the driver would put his left leg right under the front of the seat. With this seat I have plenty of clearence for the lever that you pull on to adjust. I needed to make clearence for the arm that pulls on the cable that goes over to the passenger side of the seat.

Well I wasn't able to machine the little brass bushing I had there wasn't enough room for them. But I did make a little rubber bushing to go between the adjuster and the seat frame. It is still pretty solid with the bushing but it will help relieve the stud a little I think?

I got the new seat cover from LMC a couple of weeks ago and I just took the seat pan frame and back rest frame to get powdercoated and then from there it will be recovered. Hopefully in the next month or 2.

I also sent out chrome stuff in the last week I am hopeing to see that stuff around the middle of May. Some small stuff went to Chrome Plating Specialists in Brillion WI and then the grill and headlight bezels went to Pauls Chrome in Evans City PA (it actually arrived there this afternoon).

Thanks everyone.

Still waiting on my seat

I will post pics of the chrome it's REALLY REALLY NICE

Also hopefully here in 2 weeks or so my truck will be painted

In the mean time I have been working on some of the small pidly tinkering stuff cleaning things up repainting and such. I still have to clean and seal the gas tank that is my biggest project on the to do list.

So here is a project that has been on the top of my head for a while now. The 2 battery trays I have for my truck are all beat up and bent and the one out of LMC is not the correct tray for my truck so I had to send back for a refund. So I bought this 73-80 chevy truck tray at a swap meet last weekend and I think it will work pretty well. What do you guys think?

It is barely long enough though. If it was about a 1/2 inch longer it would fit a little bit better but this one will work ok I think. My plans are to get it welded and blasted and then powder coated semi gloss black.

I will get to those chrome pictures next time

Here's an update.
The body shop mocked up the front end one last time before final paint. Possibly next week or the week after that
