remote start in 05 hybrid
Why would you want one anyway? These cars warm up extremely fast and like any car, warm up quicker when under slight load. Just don't leave the driveway spinning your wheels.
If it is extreme cold you are concerned with, a block heater might make more sense.
So far I am getting 33 mpg w/ my 05 hybrid 4x4, but to answer your question about my question...my wife wants the remote start, she had it in her Tahoe, which I now have and she misses starting it up and having it warm or cold when she gets in it... and nothing is worse than me having that luxury and she doesn't, so... the question posed to the forum is more as research before the marriage saver attonements are done!!
The block heater is an option but that would require a plug/unplug step!
I understand about the problem of a block heater. We had a '78 Olds diesel and my sister pulled the plug out of the wall a couple times.
Well, I see that you have two options......"promise"
to never use the remote start in your Tahoe or be nice enough to go out and start the Escape for her every morning. I did a quick search on greenhybrid and didn't see any threads where anyone had a remote start on any of the model years. You may be SOL on this.
I try to not start it when she is around so as not to pour acid on the open wound! The 4wd is actually a 4wd and not a awd, that is, as per the tech at the Ford dealership!,,what do I know, though??
I had placed a call to a friend who works at the dealership andhe checked w/ their contractor who installs the remote starts for the local dealership and as per the contractor the have not been any issues/concerns, so I guess my ? has been answered, after I get her THE X-mas present ...shhh.... the remote starter, I will let you all know if there are any issues.
On a side note, my wife got dissed by a prius owner, a rather rude one at that, he pulled up next to her, asked what she got for mpg's? and said 50 and then blasted away/ w/out giving her a chance to come up w/ a reply! I told her to ask is that also true in snow or when you are stuck on the beach or wet grass at the carnival parking lot???? AND how much cargo can you haul,,in addition to your large head and even larger a@*!???? She is ready for the next wise guy!! forgot to mention ..I have been starting it for her but lately we haven't been leaving at anywhere near the same times.
The important thing is that it will get you out of the snow and all you have to do is drive it. My FWD are very good in snow on the stock Conti Eco Plus tires - I'm sure your car will be great in snow.Glad you got the issue of the remote start answered. Hope the guy is right about being able to do the install in the FEH. You may want to talk to him before you let him start cutting wires.
As for the smug Prius drivers? They aren't worth arguing with. They fall into several categories in my experience. The true believers in the technology(like me, and they are few and far between), the "saving the world" crowd, and those driving them because they are in style which I think is the majority of them. If they weren't so damned ugly and made by Toyota, I'd consider one if I didn't need the space of a SUV....and as long as I knew noone would see me in it.
Even took it to a large parking lot at a baseball field nearby where there were snowdrifts at least three feet high... it plowed through them like nobody's business.
AWD means all four wheels have power all the time. 4WD means only two have power, with the other two getting power when engaged (or in the case of these, automatically when the front tires slip).
My '95 scort gets about the same MPG as our Escape Hybrid, but it's hard to haul two large dogs and a bunch of equipment in it...

On a warm start, the car will still run on gas for a minimum of 30 seconds to perform self tests before it will be allowed to go electric mode.
