nope you dont need it at all. you want the temps to get out of the exhaust anyways. wont hurt a thing if it aint rapped thats why they aint wrapped when you order them

Header wrap, or heat wrap, is the source of a long running debate among racer types. My understanding of the purpose of header wrap is to keep exhaust temps high as they exit to maximize scavaging of exhaust gases. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.) I'm not sure how that would effect the performance of our diesels. What I do know first hand is how badly and quickly it will deteriorate whatever you wrap with it. It seems that it drastically shortens the life of headers, and I would have to believe it would have the same effect on your downpipe.

I thought about wrapping the DP before, but honestly it doesnt make sense to me to keep the heat in the pipe. So needless to say i didnt do it and the truck still runs fine and temps are still very managable.

rapping the uppies would do more than wraping the dp in my opinion ether way i don't think that it will do you much good. probably just cause it to rust out quicker

I like the idea of wrapping the DP to help keep the heat off the firewall and the tranny lines.
I just reused the wrap that was on the original DP and secured it with stainless welding wire.

performance is improved as 88 bronc said, wrapping the manifolds and uppipes. and like cuda says about the dp, it is more of a tranny saver since the aftermarket pipe is so dam close to the trans and lines. i used the aluminized insu;lation off the 6.0 pipes. works wonders and wont rot your pipe out.
